A couple of early ones from Pete Dye at Crooked Stick Golf Club, Carmel, Ind...
First is his original drawing for a par-71course (dated late 1963 or early 1964), which he used to solicit members (and funds) before ground was broken. Neither Pete nor Alice can recall who did this rendering.
Pete's name for the course at that time: "Muir of Golf" -- mimicking the name of James Braid's circa 1875 layout "Muir of Ord" (gold) northwest of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The course Pete and Alice eventually construct bears no resemblance to the drawing of the "never built" Muir of Golf...
Next, the real Crooked Stick (par-72), in a drawing completed shortly after construction and seeding of the back nine (dated November 18, 1965). Due to a lack of funds (from slow real estate sales) construction of the front nine becomes delayed until spring of '66 and seeding is completed that fall. The entire 18 hole Crooked Stick Golf Club opens for play in late spring 1967. Again, the artist is unknown...
