By "famous initials", I mean 3 highly rated courses have the same initials as this course with great views.

Doesn't Sandpiper fly here?

Is more famous neighbor less worthy?  Some have said so...

Brian and Joe Hackett were the pilots for Sandpiper.  Local
cabbie is now the "Defective Detective" on USA network.

I figured you guys would take the limerick clue!  Also the
name of more famous neighbor with Current Open Doctor architect.

SanCouric noggin?  (or SanJoey Potter BJ?) :-[  YAPCRs galore....

with part of this course in the name?  I think it's from the
opening sequence.

Shinny, Sand Hills, and The Glass are the 3 courses from
earlier clue.

Before I realized that the clue with the initials was in this thread, I was thinking that this was Rees Jones' course in the same locale. I thought "My, he certainly is able to vary his shapes when he wants to!" Oh, well.

Nigel (I always think of Spinal Tap whenever I hear the name Nigel :) ),

My earlier clue:  "Also the name of more famous neighbor
with Current Open Doctor architect" showed that this was the
neighbor of said Rees design.

played here a couple of weeks ago, with the standard rain we've been getting in the northeast. Rees' course (which is v. good) is to the southeast. can't see the famous lighthouse (with same name) in this aerial (since you are directly above it). its up top.

The very weird thing is:

When I saw your reference to "famous initials," Scott -- before even looking at the aerial! -- my one and only thought was: "J.F.K."

I wonder how many others my age would have exactly the same first thought.

This is Sankaty Head, in Siasconset, MA (on Nantucket
Island), designed by Phil Wogan (according to
golfcourse.com).  Often ranked among the top courses in MA,
it is now overlooked by the hotsy-totsy Rees-designed
Nantucket GC next door.

Here are two oblique aerial pics (provided by SPDB) of SH:





This pic was taken before Nantucket GC, hence why it is
unavailable.  In my AOTD Summary after 250, I
inadvertently included Sankaty on the list of courses
unavailable, but I hadn't looked on Terraserver.  I removed it
for the 350 summary.

other clues include:

famous GC initials, SH, Shinnecock Hills, Sand Hills,
Spyglass Hill.

360 degree views on the island.

"Sandpiper flies here" and "Brian and Joe Hackett were the
pilots for Sandpiper.  Local cabbie is now the "Defective
Detective" on USA network" refers to the TV show "Wings",
set on Nantucket Island, and characters from it.  Tony
Shalhoub, who played Antonio the cabbie, now plays "Monk",
on USA, a pretty good show.

famous dirty "limerick"  = "There once was a man from" Nantucket....

I believe Sankaty was designed by Skip Wogan, Phil Wogan's father.  Skip was an apprentice to Ross at Essex CC in Manchester, MA before taking over at Essex for many years when Ross's design career took over his club pro career.  He designed a few courses in MA (Sankaty, Tedesco) and Webhannet in Maine among others.  I visited Phil Wogan's office last summer with my grandfather looking for old aerials of Tedesco, and saw that he had the plans for Sankaty as well.  If any additional work has been done recently there, I would assume that Phil carried it out.
