Oak Hill (East) -- justified resurgence?
« on: April 02, 2003, 10:10:25 AM »
Hello,

I just saw the GD list , and I see that OH made a large jump to number 10 (from 23, I believe).  I know Paul Latshaw Jr. (the Super) is very good at what he does, but does this jump have more to it than improved conditioning?  Is it justified?

Yours,

FJC

Fred;

It might just be a late bounce due to the work the Fazio's did in 1979.

It certainly couldn't be due to piled on "Tradition" points with it's recent selection as a Ryder Cup site, right?

Thankfully, they don't do a European list to my knowledge, or The Brabazon course at the Belfry would probably make the top ten.

Mike,

Don't sugar coat it, tell us what you really think of Golf Digest's rankings! ;D ;D

What perplexes me is how high Baltusrol continues to be ranked...ahead of Garden City, Plainfield, Sand Hills, etc.  I suppose it's the US Open bias that jacks up the rankings for some of these courses...ala Oak Hill.

When I played Oak Hill a couple of summers ago, they were doing a lot of work on the fairway bunkers in particular, making them quite deep and possibly moving some (I don't know where they were before!). I think there were also some tees added. So, there have been some recent changes to the layout.
