Masters Cut - What do you think?
« on: April 08, 2003, 04:14:27 PM »
Looking at the forecast for Augusta, it looks like it will be rainy and damp on Thursday.  Friday should be windy (with forecasted 23 mph winds).

Given the routing, length, and weather, where do you think the cut will fall?  (Don't forget that everyone within 10 strokes of the leader is in.)

I'm thinking -6 under may lead the tournmant (68-70) after two rounds, so the cut could be +4.  If it gusts throughout the day on Friday, it could go higher.

Carlyle,
The cut could be a stroke or two higher if the changes made to the course create more difficulty for some of the players.

I wonder if anyone will shoot four rounds in the 60's?

Carlyle,
The cut numbers are interesting to look at. They stay fairly constant from 1966 'til '79 and then go on a roller coaster ride down til reaching a peak 82, down again until 87 thru 89, down again unyil 94,down until finding some consistency in 97,98,99 and 2000 and then plummeting again.

I wonder if there is a correlation, reflected in these numbers, between the introduction of particular equipment and the changes to the course?

I think they are looking for a +5 cut, same as they had before the days of Pittsburgh Persimmon and I also think this cut number is more important to the powers that be than the final score.

Ok guys, you're hearing it here first. No matter how windy it gets on Friday, any player shooting +3 for two rounds will have a weekend with his feet up, or heading off to Hilton Head.

Get it wet, and the players shoot low, with -8 to -11 a reasonable 36 hole lead. Even in the wind, if those greens aren't very firm, the cut score plummets. +1, or +2 maximum.

I am with tonyt on this one.  If it is wet then I also believe that Tiger will have an even better chance of winning.

Got Half Right
« Reply #7 on: April 12, 2003, 10:29:58 AM »
Well, I figured the leader would be -6 and the cut would be +4.  I got half of it right.  I guess the shocking thing is that Tiger made the cut on the number: +5.

Any speculation that Tiger could go 0 for 4 this season in majors?  (Don't add me to that list!)
