augusta's 13th green renovation drawing
« on: April 12, 2003, 05:57:00 PM »
This is the working drawing for the renovations to the 13th, done in 1983. The left was flattened to create a slight shelf between front left and back left. The swale was added to the green site, pulling the bunkers back away from the green.
The contour on the green is 3" and the bold contours outside the green are one foot.

Though a few people might enjoy this.

Ian,

My recollection is that the contour/slope within the green is far more than 3 ".  I would think that the contour/slope of the back shelf surface alone is at least 3 " from fringe to the start of the shelf.

Pat, every line on the surface of the green represents another 3" of elevation change. The green is quite steep.

Ian, Is this an As-Built drawing?

Thanks for posting this.

Tommy,

No, its for construction because its covered with hand notes about shaping. The "ledge" in the green is explained to not be a ledge, but to be a varied set of slopes. There a small handwritten notes in a number of areas. Lastly it would say as-built on or by the title if it was.

Who were the designer's?  Bawldwin & Cranston, Assoc?

I always felt the "V" shaped swale behind the green is drastic, but there it is in black and white.

It looks like 4ft. of fall from back right to front left. Pretty severe putting surface, with pinnable areas over 3 percent.  No wonder those putts break so much.  Makes for fun watching anyway, like putting on ice.  Too bad the new grasses have made surfaces like this obsolete.

Ian - I thought it was done by Bob Cupp when he was in the employ of Jack Nicklaus?
