There have been a few large renovations of some great courses where all the trees have been removed. I guess a couple would be Oakmont and Philly Cricket. Two great course for sure but I'm not sold that the mass deforestation made either better in the long run. The members commitment to golf is real for sure but maybe , just maybe leaving a few of the arboreal wonders that are gone are surely missed.
I'm one for saving the turf but if you have the right superintendent it doesn't have to be so grandiose, just saying !
