"There are less than five clubs that the USGA regards as truly special," said Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA, who made a rare appearance for a Media Day at Merion on Monday.Shots fired! Why does Whan have to say this as they are highlighting clubs selected moreso for the Men's US Open? They have scheduled so far in advance that it leaves out other potential courses who are either restoring themselves or prevent many from getting in the arms race to improve as the incentive is gone. They have awarded the 2051 US Open already, so a 35 year old will be retired by then.
