Nice explanation of why (dispersion patterns and the angle of the green) it's so dangerous for right-handed golfer's to aim at the Sunday pin on the 12th.

I get a video about the basketball player Jerry West when I click on the above link.

I found this one. I assume this is the video to which you're referring?

Yes, Jim, and thanks for pointing out my mistake. Not sure how that happened.

I think something missing from this discussion is that the hole is based on/shares the same strategy as #15 at Pasatiempo. Golden Bell is a bit narrower, but they both share swirling winds, and both have a forced carry to the angled green. I’m sure many here know that, but for anyone who doesn’t, and for anyone who wants to try their hand at chasing that right pin, you can.

I could not find the old page with Pasatiempo’s course illustrations, so here’s mine:

I am sure that this has been discussed in other threads, but angled shallow (some more shallow than others) greens on par 3s seem a staple of MacKenzie’s work in the US. CPC 7 is another example. I believe the Valley Club also has one but the angle runs the other way.

Did he use a form of the hole in the UK and Australia? Did he pick up the idea from any prior course/architect?

Thanks.
