I would have loved to have grown up near a course like this to learn the game.  It is a 18-hole par 3 course that opened about 15 years ago and the owners live on the course.  Longest hole about 150 yards. 

You have to see the grade-level greens to believe them!  All 18 of them.

You pay 15 bucks to play as many holes as you like.  And no carts; walking only.

#4.  You must navigate a pair of cedar trees on this 102 yard hole.

Thanks for highlighting Joe.
Wish there were more places like it (once upon a time there were). Simple and inexpensive to operate and play. Be nice if grander and more established clubs, if they already have or can acquire the land, should have a facility similar to it. Perfect for those new to the game to learn and for those who no longer wish to play full-size and/or higher spec courses to play, socialise and have fun. And all those in the middle group if they feel so inclined too.

I had a wedding nearby and played this course with attendees the morning of the afternoon wedding. It was just pure fun. Everyone could play it. There were many who had never played show up. They all loved it. But I seem to remember one par four?

Maybe you played the 4th hole over the two cedar trees as a par 4?!

Many people have blocked me on other social media platforms. Grin.


But I don’t think that is easily implemented on GCA.   ;)

The photos don't show up on my browser either.  It's Windows 10 and Chrome and it has reliably worked for years with GCA.  The links look OK to me and as individual links they work fine if I open them in another window.  Maybe something wrong with GCA host?  Or, recent updates to Chrome?  They work fine on Firefox, so some kind of issue with GCA on Chrome. Photos in other threads also show up fine.  Maybe a problem with your hosting site/GCA/Chrome?  Any ideas?

I opened the console for this page on my version of Chrome and it looks like a certificate error on the server Joe is using.  Not all browsers enforce this, hence it works in IE and Firefox, but Chrome isn't having it.  Here is what the error says:



Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www80.homepage.villanova.edu (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more

NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

I'm sorry, Joe, but this is just a flat field with some circles mowed for targets. It would be great for taking some little kids out to knock a ball around, but not much else.


We have a 12-hole par 3 here in Greenville, SC that has some excellent and fun hole... along with an amazing "Himalayas" style putting course... and, a cool outdoor bar and TV viewing area.   3's Greenville Golf & Grill | Golf Course Overview

I'd rather go to a driving range than visit Shamrock Farms.

This feels like most of the courses I drive by on secondary roads. Sure there might be some interest but not enough for me to stop, or to comeback to see it.

Joe,


I get that you love it and I think it's great to be able to play golf for $15. The issue I have is in comparison to like courses one seems to be lacking indirect comparisons to the limited budget public golf options I have seen. Would I rather play 18 here or 9 at Coys' Par 3, Dark Horse, Rosetown, Bridge Valley, or Bluenose. I would rather play 9 at any of the courses listed because they have at least one hole that sticks in mind thoroughly as an interesting way to use a landform. This course seems like a guy got bored one afternoon and decided to cut some circles in a field then call it a golf course. That is not the height of minimalism that's just a small-town businessman. Maybe I am wrong and if I am driving by I might stop to see if I am wrong. Until then I hold that I see little difference between here and the other countless courses I have driven by and never thought about turning back for.
