Who Built the NGLA Replica Greens at Ballyshear?
« on: November 08, 2019, 12:51:25 PM »
While looking at a course in the Hamptons on Google Maps, I noticed a mansion with a very intriguing "practice facility" (image below). I did some very quick Googling and found it is the Ballyshear Estate, once owned by C.B. Macdonald, now the apparent residence of Michael Bloomberg. It appears as though he commissioned the build of a couple of NGLA replica greens, but I am curious who may have designed and built it for the estate? Pure curiosity.

Nice back yard. Certainly nicer than the practice green at the white house.

Is it synthetic turf or real grass?

Haha, I came across this a while back spending way too much time on Google Earth. Taking a look at the historical imagery it looks like it was built in 2013. Yardage is spot on for the short. Does anyone know what the top green is based on? Certainly looks like real grass except for the few teeing areas which are a darker shade of green. Would love to know who built it.

I have not played NGLA, but it sure looks similar to their Redan.

I believe that is Michael Bloomberg's back yard and Tommy N had a hand in that build.

When I saw this, I thought it was about the course Gil and team are building in Thailand, Ballyshear Golf Links.

Yes, it is a course of template holes. No, it will not be a walking course but rather carts and caddies.
