Why would anyone go into politics? One side or the other will ruin your life. We get the government we deserve. The days of agreeing on some things and disagreeing on others are gone. The thought police on either side don't allow it. George Orwell predicted well.

Now, I might be wrong and admittedly I did not read the WaPo article...but...

I am under the impression that Cadillac pulled their sponsorship at Doral and then the PGA moved the event to Mexico because the guy who hangs his name on Doral made substantial disparaging remarks about Mexico and Mexicans.

I am reluctant to get into this thread as it becomes increasingly OT and political.  But I can't resist at least one (?) observation.  It is clear that the reason the item was posted is because Trump is the President and therefore, regardless of which political side one takes, his economic status is of greater interest than that of the average Joe.  One might question the motives of those who chose to print it.  But one cannot ignore that the facts are indeed facts.  What troubles me during much of our current political discourse, which from time to time bleeds into this site, is that in discussing issues we can't even agree to respect factual data, even if it is inconvenient to our position.  Relating this problem to GCA, we are faced with members opposed to cutting down trees who argue that their course is becoming too "easy".  We have confronted them with data that shows scores are not improving and handicaps are not dropping, hence the course is by definition not "easier".  But they are usually unwilling to accept the factual data because it does not conform to preconceived  notions or preferences.  I fear the same is true in politics which makes meaningful discussion on policy extraordinarily difficult if not impossible.

I don't automatically trust the facts are correct, even from the Washington Post which has proven to be so honorable.

I think what Trump has done politically has been beyond genius and his results will show in his landslide re election. If anyone should be upset with Trumps policy it could be some very far right republicans who are opposed to spending the money it costs to fix up decades of incompetence. A good example is the wall. Trump is fighting Democrats tooth and nail on that wall they have claimed they wanted for decades. Since when do Democrats oppose infrastructure projects that supply union labor? Democrats, Republicans, and Independents don't want to see an end to this roaring economy.

As it pertains to GCA I think its unfortunate the jealousy in America has run so rampant we hate anyone and everything that is better than we are. Trump is a billionaire and seems to have every material thing a man can possibly want. Instead of aspiring to be more we just point the finger at the guy whos made it and claim hes the bad guy. There is no denying in golf our pros have improved along with equipment leaps and bounds. Why can't we aspire to be better ourselves? Practice more. Utilize our local PGA Professionals and get lessons. It's a far better strategy then stomping our feet and demanding easier because we just can't be like them and dont want self improvement. We live in a world where everyone needs a trophy, everyone must be equal, and EVERY golf course needs to cater to us. It's a shame in my opinion.

^ :o ??? ::) :P :-X :-\ :'( .  Maybe, just perhaps, now that vast swaths of the population see Orange Julius as those of us who’ve lived in NYC in the past 40 years always have, they are simply choosing not to spend a nickel of their hard earned cash at any property with any association whatsoever with the name that shall not be uttered.  The hard core believers would do well to take a gander at the trajectory of The Apprentice ratings after the initial flash in the pan as the act was laid bare and grew tiresome.  There’ll be plenty of time to see Turnberry or Doral again someday, after the inevitable sale.

This is so laughably stupid I just had to quote it. You’ve been defending Trump on the NLU discussion board by claiming how charitable the Trump Organization/family is and has been. Seriously, you’re on the payroll, right?

Has president Trump really been perceived poorly in the NYC area over the last 40 years?  I never would have joined one of his clubs or lived in one of his buildings but it is crazy to argue he was not successful in that realm.

What does it say about those that flocked to the TRUMP name and now act repelled by the man as if he suddenly changed?

You are obtuse. You really DO believe that people are arguing for wider playing corridors at BPB just so they can get around the course with a lower score...

I'm still laughing out loud at your latest whacky theory: rather than go to range and take lessons to become a better golfer, my strategy is to go on GCA.COM, argue for removal of rough, and hope enough clubs follow this advice so my score goes down. You nailed it! I'm cancelling my Thursday lesson and will write to every club in the tri-state area.

With theories like that, I can't wait for your response on the BPB thread listing the architectural features that make it a great course. C'mon man, put YOUR opinions out there, not just a listing of rankings that others have done.

Perhaps some talk blindly about this stuff? I do not  :)
I have been to Trump National Doral / Philly / Colts Neck / Westchester / Bedminster / Hudson Valley. All really great courses and clubs. I know conditioning isn't this groups #1 priority but all their clubs are kept in PGA conditions daily. There is also a fantastic variety of design throughout the portfolio including work along side Tom Fazio, Gil Hanse, and recently Tiger Woods. Fazio was just back at Philly last week as the clubs are always improving the courses and expanding the golf portfolio.
I just call it like I see it, the clubs are great, the members love whats provided, and the golf business is thriving for them. Some may not like him but lying to themselves and others about the health of the business is just silly.  ;D

If you really believe that you will be sadly disappointed when you learn your honorable news sources lied to you, most likely after Trump wins an easy reelection. This will be similar to his election day when you really believed he had no chance.

Instead of posting statements that show you are delusional to the degree of posting such falsehood, lets move the conversation onto why Trump Golf is so successful. I already listed extraordinary conditions and variety in design partnering with many different top architects, but another big reason they are so successful is because all his designs are championship designs. They offer a test for every golfer including the tour pro. From the championship tees Trump courses rival some of the most challenging courses in the country.

I had a very enjoyable round at Bedminster Old from the tips last summer. It's a par 72 at 7700 yards. Would I elect to play from those tees everyday? Absolutely not, but out of the rounds I played there it was nice to go back and see what the tour pros will see at the 2022 PGA Championship. I also got the opportunity to see some of the ongoing improvements being made to challenge the pros in 2022. There is a ton of planning and hard work involved in these tournaments, downplaying everyone involved and lying simply because you do not like the President offends many people out there.. Shame on you.
