Didn't Montgomeryville morph into Pine something?

Ed,

Yes, four of the courses on my list have become new courses on the same site.

Montgomeryville was completely redesigned by Ron Prichard and is now PineCrest

Hidden Springs was a 36 hole complex that was blown up to become 18 hole Commonwealth National and an office park.

Nemacolin Woodlands (Links) closed and my understanding is that much of that land was used for the new Shepherd's Rock course.

Eagle Lodge closed and became The Ace Club.   Interestingly, that same site was Roxborough Country Club before Eagle Lodge.   I'm wondering if there is any other site in the world that had three separate, distinct golf courses built over it.

And Yorktowne closed and later became Hawk Lake which also closed.

I did not know that about Eagle Lodge. Played a bunch of golf there in the 90's.

Thanks for the info.
We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

23. Half in Oregon
West Hills Hoyt Park, Pleasant Valley, Orenco Woods, Neahkahnie, Top O'Scott, Veterans Memorial, Colwood Natl.,
Bandon (hickory), McKenzie River

Pete, I had no idea there was a golf course in the West Hills. Do you happen to know of any other resources or information on it?

Also, was bummed to see McKenzie close recently. Tokatee is might be the best hidden gem in the State, so often stopped by for 9 on my way up river.
West Hills was a Chandler Egan 9 hole course with the clubhouse near the site of the zoo entrance and extending up to Fairview Blvd. It had bout half a million (9 hole) rounds between 1924 and 1944. Closed because of the relocation of the Portland Zoo and the building of OMSI. It was replaced by Hoyt Park Pitch and Putt, which had a slow demise by the building of the Foresty Center, then the Vietnam Memorial.

I was literally walking through Washington Park 4 days ago thinking "what would it look like if there were a golf course here?" Wish I was around to have seen it!

P2,

I think Wolf Point's demise is premature, but Don M would know best of all... we played there last fall at their special open house event...

On MIke's listing I know two... Pecan Valley in San Antonio was a classic venue, very much missed layout if not conditioning at the end and Doak's High Point in Acme, MI is very missed every time we drive by on way into Traverse... played every year it was in existence, now a hops farm, very sad!

A fair few as it happens.

Edenbridge (Skeynes) - Without doubt the shittiest course I have ever played. Good riddance to this festering pile of crap.
Langton Hall  - A very short lived 9-holer, near Market Harborough, which had aspirations of being the home of England Rugby Union. Now a USGA spec sheep meadow. Designed by Hawtree. I surveyed it for its official course measurement. Played it twice and both times couldn't find anyone or anywhere to pay a green fee. Might have been a symptom of the problem.
Lamerwood - Once a posh oriental-owned country club near Harpenden, but gone now. Still just about recognisable as once being a golf course on Google Earth. It was quite pretty. Designed by Cameron Sinclair.
Whitekirk - Suffered by comparison with its illustrious East Lothian neighbours
Mentmore  - They might have been resurrected in the last year or so. Not worth the bother.
Inchmarlo - It was alright, but nothing special in an area full of good golf.
East Aberdeenshire - Not missed and barely noticed by anyone when it was open.
Royal New Kent - I hope and pray this amazing course can be saved.
Stonehouse - Ditto above, but I fear it is too far gone to invest the money it needs to make it a going concern.
Riffa, Bahrain - Well, I was rather responsible for destroying it to make way for a new course in its place.

...and on its way to Dignitas

Southwood - A pretty cruddy but handily located pay-and-play which is going be closed and turned into a park. It won't take long to convert given the minimal care it gets now.

2024: Royal St. David's (x2); Mill Ride
In planning: Hayling, Jameson Links, Druids Glen, Royal Dublin, Portmarnock, Old Head, Thurlestone

Just added what were the Championship and Wisner courses at City Park in New Orleans.   There is now a new Rees Jones course built post-Katrina atop those two courses.

Yes, it was the Dye course, Eagle Point, that had a new Four Seasons built on it at Disney.

The two courses at Angel's Trace on my NLE list were redeveloped into a single golf course called Jaguar's Lair, which was fully constructed and grassed (except for the greens, I think), then sat dormant for years without ever opening. They finally stopped maintaining it a couple of years ago and now it's been reclaimed by nature.

I'm sure there are some others but here are some of mine:

Sea View Playland Pitch and Putt (Cape Cod, site of my first golf shot circa 1962)
High Pointe (MI)
Topsail Greens (NC)
Riddells Bay (Bermuda)

And the following Colorado courses, in order of best to worst GCA:

Grandote Peaks
Green Gables
Mira Vista (Lowry AFB), replaced by Commonground
Great Sand Dunes
Fitzsimons AFB
Centre Hills
Mountain View

Tallgrass (NY)
Calverton Links (NY)
Dix Hills GC (NY)

From 2005-08 we had an annual four-man Myrtle Beach trip and played I think 15 courses over four years.  A quarter of them have closed in a decade, maybe more.

Ugh...just added Heather Glen and Waterway Hills.   My total is now up to 77 of 1083, or 7.1%

Still holding on adding two others that I suspect are more redesign/reconstruction than completely new golf course.   Those include the Concord (Monster) in NY and what was formerly Harbourtowne on the eastern shore of MD which is reopening this spring after a Pete re-do he and his brother Roy did back in 1971.

My general rule of thumb is if a significant number of holes and/or hole corridors (routing) stays the same I just consider it a re-design or reconstruction (not a new course), even if new owners want to re-name/rebrand.

I'm holding off on Isle Dauphine in Alabama...it closed circa 2005-2010, but nine holes re-opened last year!  It was on the original Golf Digest T100 toughest list.

Scouring my list now...adding another, Lafayette Hills in Syracuse closed in 2013.  It was attributed to Seymour Dunn, with a supposed Tillie visit in the 20s.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....
