Grand-Mere Golf Club and Charles Allison
« on: July 11, 2017, 10:27:17 AM »

I received this message from Richard Rousseau, owner of the Grandmere golf course in Quebec.  Since I have little knowledge of Allison's work, and with Mr. Rousseau's permission, I am posting his request in hopes that someone will have information of interest to him.

"My name is Richard Rousseau, current owner of the Grandmere course. Townsend, Cahoun, Travis, and signed drawings by Allison of Colt, Mackenzie and Allison all form part of our history. What I fail to understand is Allison’s involvement. Townsend built the first holes, and completion of the 18 hole layout was clearly done by Travis, many of those holes never altered in any way. In what capacity did Allison and his partners get involved?"

Harry?
The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

If he has the drawings by Alison, surely he can tell if any of them were utilized in the present course?

Alison would have been the one to make a visit to a project in North America during the brief partnership of Colt, MacKenzie and Alison.  Colt last visited in 1912, before the partnership was formed, and MacKenzie never came to America until 1925, after it was dissolved.

Properly Hugh. Charles Hugh Alison, named after his father, Charles German Alison, but always known as Hugh.
