Is it true your Weber grille was there?

It's always a shame when a clubhouse burns, but I hope Cobb's can bounce back from this stronger than ever. With their new super, things are starting to look up for the course and it's conditions.

I also hope nothing of historical note was lost in the fire.

Joe the club is it's people. A fancy clubhouse doesn't bind folks together. It serves a purpose and will be rebuilt. The key is holding the players together. How many times has Overbrrok burned? It always comes back due to the quality of the men and women involved.

Here's the new Maryvale/GCU 10000sf club house @ 3M:

Cobbs Creek needs a benefactor for the new club house in return for naming rights. Paging Verizon or Comcast!

Bill,

That depends if the City or Casper Management bought the insurance.

In a perfect world, the CC clubhouse would be rebuilt to the original exterior specs with an inside modernized to fit intended purpose(s).

I don't know for certain but imagine as a city property they would need to be the insurance holder, rather than the management company.

Bill,
That depends if the City or Casper Management bought the insurance.

Well, either the City or Casper Management could have purchased good insurance: Replacement Cost coverage on the Building with sufficient limits to pay for full reconstruction of the old building.

I imagine that Casper Management's insurance program could easily be extended to cover owners' buildings but perhaps that is something that is negotiated with each course. I think I'd only be concerned if  the City was self insured for a significant portion of Property losses, including this fire loss.

It would be a safe bet that Capser's insurance program covers extra expenses like renting trailers/temporary locker rooms, etc. as well as Loss of Income.

Bill all that is fairly standard stuff, but as you noted we hope they bought the " good stuff" as far as insurance. Part of the issue on these old buildings is if folks still have the trade knowledge to rebuild them like the old craftsmen did.

I would wonder if this isn't the time to see what could be built there to serve golf and the community?

Ed,

I regret to inform you that your order for the swimming pool has been rejected.

There are plans, however, for a nice pond over closer to the second tee at Karakung.

Mike, Mike, Mike, you poor misguided bleeding heart liberal moron. I had in mind some instruction area along the lines of a First Tee center. Maybe throw in a Caddy Academy so some local kids would have employment in the summer. Get them interested in the game? Could the shop be expanded to show kids how mechanics repair motors and mowers?

Maybe try to convince your local golf asosciation to have their offices there?? There are alot of things that could be added to help the adults and kids in that area to take up golf or golf related activities. I love old clubhouses but in that location I believe serving the community Trumps, like that ?, a re-creation of a building.

Plus if you ever see me lobbying for a pool please call my doctor to increase my meds, I would love to see ours become a short game area with a nice bar.

Hello Ed,
Many of ypur excellent suggestions have already been put forward and discussed in brief with some potential interest  from those that could make it happen.
From my perspective, it is possible to build something BOTH sympathic and consistent with the past architecture,  AND functional for modern day requirements. That's where vision, talent, and a willingness to not go cheap on construction carry the day to create something special of which everyone can be proud.
Now, will that happen? Time will tell.  Properly done, with the other course restoration/storm water components layered in, that property could be one of the finest, smaller scale municipals in the country. It could also be a real game-changer for that section of West Philly. I hope we can get it right!

Cheers,

I hope so to Kris, it is way to important to screw up. This could be a real game changer for the area if everyone puts on their thinking caps.
