Architects and hazard marking

To what extent do architects get involved in deciding whether a water hazard should be red or yellow staked or whether an area should be out of bounds?

These factors can have quite a significant effect on how a hole plays so I'm curious to know to what extent architects are or arn't involved in the hazard defining process either for a new build or a renovation etc or whether some club etc official, committee member, greenkeeper ends up making the decision.

Hi Thomas –

From my experience, architects may 'get involved' in this decision/conversation, but after the course has opened and been in play for a period of time, often the club will review these markings. If the course is used in tournament play, then the authority running the event will also contribute to the conversation (or just change the marking to what they would prefer it to be).
