Arizona golf

What are the three or four best golf courses from a conditioning and management view as well as design in the Scottsdale area. I have a few clients going out who are not GCA types but enjoy the comforts of a upscale quality golf holiday.

The Troon North properties set the standard for what you are looking.

It falls into category 3

1 I'll play
2 I won't play
3 I'll play if I don't have to pay and there's nowhere else to play today.

The TPC of Scottsdale is a big hit with TV watchers.  They can see where Tiger made his ACE and the drunk crowd went wild.  (Scores big with clients!!)

The Troon North monument and pinnacle courses are probably the best of the lot, but the Boulders resort and the Greyhawk courses are close in terms of conditioning and luxury.

The TPC course wasn't in very good condition when I played it and other than the aspect that Bill mentions is highly overrated.

I doubt you will find many upscale courses in the Scottedale area that aren't in great condition at this time. We all work most of the year to be perfect for the winter months and most are in very good condition.
The Troon North courses and Greyhawk courses will certainly impress most golfers. In the west valley, Quintero is a good choice. The Talking Stick courses have good service and are in awesome shape also. If your looking for glitz only, Apache Stronghold is probably not the place to go, but worth the trip if you desire more of a pure golf experience.

Second everything that has been said previously, but strongly urge you to play Talking Stick courses, as well.

I actually prefer the Talking Stick courses to all the courses I listed above and as a Troon Golf property you will be well taken care of and the facilities are top notch. I don't think the average person though will appreciate the golf courses as much as some of the others though.

Troon North is very strong, and probably the best of the
bunch. :)

The two courses at the Boulders are fine for golf, but they
offer some of the best scenery you'll see anywhere (not on
an ocean!).  Worth the trip. ;D

After listening to all the hype and then plopping down $360 for my wife and I to play, the Grayhawk Talon course was
one of the biggest disappointments in my life.  But, I did
get two new copies of Murphy's book! :-X

Also got the bait-and-switch at the Wigwam.  Beware!  I
called to make a tee-time on their Gold course.  I was given
one.  When my wife and I made the hour drive to get there,
we paid our $300 or so, and were sent instead to what they
claimed is their "second-best" course there, the Blue.  After
being covered in dirt by a dust-storm, and being subjected
to this cow pasture, I vowed never to return to this place.
Happily, I haven't. :P

TPC at Scottsdale, while not the greatest course in the
world, is certainly a fun time, and offers you the chance
to try to drive a green (like the big boys) and play the
course that the pro's play every year. ;)

John,

Troon North Monument should be their first try.  Troon North Pinnacle would be a solid second.  Back in the day Desert Mountain used to be pretty good a reciprical's with members of other clubs.  If they belong to a private club in your neck of the woods, then I would think they would be thrilled with any of their courses (My preference is Chiracua and then Renegade)

Paul, I can see you watched our pass defense this year. Your optimisim is admired. We have improved significantly over that last 4 games in that area. However, it should be noted you did not play the speed we have at wideout and never including the big house or ohio state find a crowd that will upset your tempo like you will find tues night. KK will complete alot of passes to the guys in white shirts and gold helmets. A repete of the 45 to 20 at Mich is a better prediction. Our skill guys are much better than Mich and the line  is equal and like Mich we can run the ball on ya too. I am going to Ruth Chris for lunch to eat steak and think great Tiger thoughts for it is now time to get taped up and play football. go tigers

I would love to join in and talk a little smack about how my Wolverines are going to smash Tennessee in the Citrus bowl, but I cannot imagine any UT graduate being savvy enough to know how to turn on a computer, so I envy that you guys can engage in a war of words.

Paul, I am excited too. It will in all likelyhood be a great game. I will try to be a difference maker with a strong voice for the 4 hours of the game tues. night. It is doubtful you will see me on tv, since I am sure to forget my body paint that day. However a round at english turn is in the making over the weekend. good luck to the illi and GO TIGERSSSS!!!
