Happy to say Sebonack, Ballyneal, and Prairie Dunes have been knocked from my list. I want to add Nanea to my original list as well as the two Streamsong courses.

Pine Valley - No explanation needed
Cypress Point - ditto
Merion - I would like to see a perfect little golf course (Shinne being a perfect big golf course)
Oakmont - I would like to experience the ultimate greens
Royal Melbourne - How did Tom put it - to see the course that Augusta National wishes it was
Ballyneal - To see just how fun golf can be

Any course Mayhugh has played and I haven't!

That would be a lot of great places.

Seriously, I have been very fortunate to have played many of those courses that were on my wish list but here goes:

The new LACC North in the west. What Gil Hamse, Geoff S. and Tommy have done looks amazing. I am hoping Union Bay will be on the list in the future. That place will be special!

Sand Hills, Prairie Dunes, Dismal and that group in the sandhills. A taste of it at Ballyneal made me want to explore further.

National and the other courses on Long Island I almost got to play last year but had to bail at the last minute.

Ireland.

Royal Dornoch.

Any other place Mayhugh has been to.

What is

Cypress Point
Seminole
Augusta National
VC? -- Victoria National Club????
Pine Valley
Shinnecock Hills
Chicago
Meadow Club?
Mayacama Club?
Pinehurst #2

I think I got a good start, but am sure I missed some....oh well, someone had to start.

Bart,

I had VC as Valley Club.

MCs both have me stumped.

I screwed up one acronym, in order it look the same.

Southern Hills - I have played Shinnecock Hills, a great experience.
Madison Club
Valley Club
Myopia Hunt Club (should have been MHC, but I did have the hint 'I can's see it')

"Need" and "want" are two separate things. Accessibility and cost are obvious constraints. I would love to see....

US: for starters - as I have seen next to nothing
Pine Valley
Cypress Point
Shinnecock Hills
Sand Hills
National Golf Links of America

UK: I've seen a lot of but would like to add
The European Club
St. Enodoc
Machrihanish
Siloth-on-Solway
The Addington

Australia: I've also seen a lot but also would like to see
Ellerston & Capital

Rest of the World: NZ...

the list goes on....but hey - it's been an enjoyable pursuit thus far ;)

Itís interesting to go back and see what 5 years has done and how fortunate Iíve been. I have now seen those on my US list will hopefully see some of NZ next year.

Those on the GB&I and Aust. list remain though I may have to slip Castle Stuart in.

I may have to do another US "wish list" as some dreams come true
 :)

Tom,
The problem with Banff and Jasper is that one summer Claire and I played multiple times on these courses.
Guess where we were the next summer!

Until the day I play them, I will always be daydreaming about when I can do so.

Australia

Royal Melbourne - Composite
- because I've played the West and East, but not the Composite

Port Fairy
- because I live just two hours drive away and have yet to make the short trip

America

Pine Valley
- because I was extremely fortunate enough to play Cypress in July and can't imagine a better experience
- to see if it's really as tough as they all say

Augusta National
- so I can truly appreciate the topography and beauty that I have been told about
- so I can hit that terrifying shot on the 12th tee

Merion
- I love the look of that place and want to experience the nerves of teeing off that 1st tee

National Golf Links of America
- because it looks like one of the most fun courses to play
- because if I don't, I'll forever regret to do so after playing Shinnecock

Shinnecock Hills
- because if I don't, I'll forever regret to do so after playing NGLA
Sand Hills

- because it's the greatest modern course, from all reports

Scotland

The Old Course
- because I've caddied around it in the women's British Open but haven't played it
- so I can walk over Swilkan Bridge and take in the atmosphere on the 18th, with MY clubs, not someone else's
- so I can play the Road Hole
- so I can hit my approach over or through the Valley of Sin
- because it's the Old Course, the Home of Golf

North Berwick
- because I want to hit that approach shot over the wall on the Pit hole

Royal Dornoch
- because it looks incredibly beautiful when the gorse is in bloom

Prestwick
- because it's the birthplace of the Open Championship

Ireland/Northern Ireland

Royal County Down
- because it looks to be one of the most breathtaking sites in golf
- because I had a tee-time booked in 2006 and couldn't make the trip

Royal Portrush - Dunluce
- see second point for RCD

Ballybunion - Old
- so I can hit an approach into the all-world 11th

Lahinch
- so I can hit the blind shots into Klondyke and the Dell

England

Sunningdale
- so I can expereince the beauty of heathland golf

Swinley Forest
- because it's supposedly a great golf course at just 6,000 yards - I have no doubt

France

Morfontaine
- it's beauty is staggeringly obvious

Apologies for the long list...this has to be the greatest game played in the greatest environments!

Although there are many the one that keeps nagging at me is Garden City. There is a mystique to the Men`s Club that is fascinating.

I'm a little ashamed of my sophomoric post earllier in this thread.  Any such list should start and stop with The Old Course.  Everything else is gravy.
