I dont know about a masterpiece, but Jeffersonville GC would be more highly regarded if it were private IMO.

Cuscowilla - in a landslide in my humble opinion.  It would have more "cache" with raters (probably a better feel) and would be slightly better maintained.  I think it is top 100 now, but it is constantly overlooked.

Also:  Bedford Springs and Bulle Rock.

Would Bethpage Black move into the top 10 or 20 if it were super private?

Agreed about Cuscowilla.

The last two summers have played havoc with their greens.

Cusco is a terrific course. It doesn't get the props it deserves. Part of that is because it is semi-private; part is because it is located on Lake Oconee and tends to get grouped with all the other development courses there.

If the Bandon Resort were private...

..would it not be one of the most sought after access points in the nation?  Can you imagine getting the call to play all 4 of those?

Pretty hard to imagine them getting rated much higher than they already are.  Except for Trails, of course... ;D

True Jud,

But I think being able to play the resort and its 4 courses would potentially be comparable to getting a pass to play Shinny, Sebonack, NGLA, and Southhampton.

Put a different way--if WF and/or QR were the public course and BPB the private club, wouldn't they all remain as highly thought of in their new category?

BP-Red wouldn't be any slouch as a private either.

I've always thought with $2-3Million of capital, George Wright in Boston could/would be the equal to Charles River, Winchester, Brae Burn, and anything else in Boston short of TCC/Salem/Myopia/Essex.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Brad,

I agree. Some great stuff at George Wright.

Semi-obscure Dead reference?  Solid! In the future, however, please stick to the prime '70-78 period... ;)  (there must also be 50 better Dylan songs to choose from)...
Of course there are 50 better Dylan songs.  He didn't call that one a masterpiece.  He said "when"  .  BTW; "Just Like a Women" was his masterpiece. ;)

Mike, Great call there.  Either that one or the complete unknown.

Never too obscure for a Dead reference!!!

Dead > Dylan !
Yo dude! Smoking too much of the hanky lanky! Not even close.  The fact that Dylan did have 50 songs greater than that one (which would make the top five of all but a few other artists) makes the point.

But it's already private, right?  I know access isn't difficult but it's not a public course.
