OK, mea culpa for a Cardinal Sin re Elie, Mark, but you committed a Mortal Sin by playing Ballyliffin Glashedy rather than Ballyliffin Old.  The former is a bulldozer "design" by Pat Ruddy, whereas, most of the latter was built by Eddie Hackett and God.

Rich,

I was tagging along with Mike W and Jerry K, post BUDA, and they had been recommended the Glashedy.  I knew little of either.  I suspect we all knew, after playing, that this was the case.

Did you enjoy Rio Real? That was the last course my Dad played before he died. He'd been on a golfing week in Spain with his mates, and the first four days they played courses that were cartball horrors, so he insisted for the last day they went somewhere where they could walk. I've still got his card...

I suspect that Mark will tell you that Rio Real isn't in the same class as the other 3 courses he played there, and I'd likely agree although only know Marbella by reputation, but Rio Real still a pretty solid course if you don't mind playing under the motorway, the parallel holes etc. It's been a long time since I played it and my pals refuse to go back which is why I haven't played it since but I quite liked it  :)

Rio Real wasn't bad.  As Niall says, it has some unattractive features (the "river" itself, a very substantial sewer pipe) and like all Spanish courses it would be so much better if the ball ever bounced but it does have some decent holes.   I probably preferred it to Marbella Resort (NOT Marbella CC) but it wasn't anywhere near as good as San Roque or Finca.  That said, it would have been a much, much easier walk.

Mark,

You didn't list Carne or Enniscrone.
Or, do I just not understand the order these are to be listed in?

Garland.  Most Recent first.  If I took out Northumberland (my home club) then I'd add Rosses Point.  Enniscrone and Carne before that.

Tommy,

Honestly, I was disappointed, though it was admittedly my first round there. I expected more variety on the nicely rolling land and the bunkering and greens, with some notable exceptions, were not inspiring.

Rick,

How was Needwood? Did you play the Exec as well? Was Chan still behind the snack bar?? I can't wait to play it again. If there is no snow on the ground at Christmas, I will be there for a game!
