In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Michael,
Its been better than I even expected. Best "surprise" if you can call it that was The Creek. It may not have the name recognition (outside GCA) that a few of the others do, but its a heck of a golf course. Yale is amazing too. Shinny, Friars, and NGLA are in my top ten, and there's no dud on that list. Hudson National, Quaker Ridge, and Sleepy Hollow complete the trip assuming this rain stops!

Original question, Aug. 2, 2011: Stemming from Mac's recent thread, someone made the comment that most of the folks on here generally play average courses.  Might as well take a survey.  What are the last ten courses you played?

Last eight (can't remember back further) different courses played:

Carolina Golf Club (Charlotte, my home course), Ross, 1929 (R Kris. Spence)
Grassy Creek Golf & Country Club (Spruce Pine, NC), _______, _______
Mt. Mitchell Golf Club (South Toe Township, Yancey County, NC), Fred W. Hawtree, 1973
Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club (Morganton, NC), Ross, 1929 (R Kris Spence)
Grove Park Inn Golf Club (Asheville, NC), Ross, 1926 (R Kris Spence)
Old Fort [NC] Golf Course, John Van Kleek, 1961
Rolling Hills Country Club (Monroe, NC), George Cobb, 1963 (R John LeFoy)

6/16/12 Wee Burn Country Club (Darien, CT), Devereux Emmet, 1925 (R Geoffrey Cornish & William Robinson)

R = remodeled, revised, restored, renovated, and so on.

Ron,

Jimbo was part of the group, but he was back on the 1st green fetching his left-behind wedge when the shot occurred. We each had 1 ace coming into the round.

I grew up in Dix Hills and the old course (Pre-Hamlet) used to be a public course in Commack I played growing up.  I was expecting very little and that's pretty much what I got.  It was a charity event for a family member.  I would not recommend.

Boy, did I ever hate Indian Tree. Some flat out goofy holes there with maybe the ultimate double hazard I've ever seen on #18.

All of which would be one thing except that there was always a junior tournament I played in (for the life of me I don't remember which) that was at the end of July, 36 holes. #16 was a brutal uphill walk at the end of a long day.
