Great pictures of a wonderful course.  I don't at all claim to be a knowledgeable person when it comes to knowing how great a golf course is or how it ranks, but it seems to me if Mohawk was in the metro NYC area it very well might be a household name in golf.  Seems to me there are so many courses that never get a sniff in any type of rankings that may very well compare strongly to those who do.

Certainly if you ever find yourself in Schenectady NY, you should take the time to play the course.

I played the Mohawk Club in Schenectady, NY for the first time last week and thought the course was very good. I found this thread of Ronald's photo tour of the course from 2011 and my first observation was that they've removed a lot of trees in the intervening 14 years.

With the ongoing current threads about tree removal, (e.g. "Too Many Down") I thought this would be a good case study, and was wondering if this group thinks the Mohawk Club removed too many or did it "just right". I like the way the course looks now. From the photos, in 2011 it looked a little claustrophobic in some spots. From what I can tell it looks like a lot of pines were removed, especially behind some of the greens and around the tee areas. Yet, some of the holes look unchanged.

I'll try to re-post some of Ronald's 2011 photos next to some I took last week from comparable areas of the course. Curious to know what everyone thinks.

Anyone that gets the opportunity to play Mohawk should’t pass it up. A really good set of Dev Emmet holes with a vibe to match.

I agree, Tim. Lots to like about MGC. For me, it's got all the attributes of a course I could play every day. These pictures don't really do it justice. Tom Watson did an exhibition there years ago and loved it

How so? I think the photos represent the course quite well and make it look pretty good, including depicting the significant movement to the land

Do you prefer it before or after the tree removal?

I really liked it and agree that it would be a great place to be a member
