I've asked Ran to delete my thread
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:16:04 PM »
I've just gotten off the phone with Ran, and during that very constructive conversation requested that for the good of the Website and for the interest of golf course architecture the thread on "brand suicide" be deleted, and he has agreed.

So silly.   So, now the apology is good enough after a phone call.

Was there an attempt to call before posting or before the second post.

Everyone got puffed up and now all the blustering is over ?

You have got to be kidding.  Is this an April 6th  joke ?

I assume Ran was called before.

All I remember, from that long ago, was that Foulpointe was thought to be joke.

I think some even went along with the joke.

Might be for the best to delete the post.

I have got to get back to homeroom before Ms. Eiche realizes I'm late.

What really sticks in the craw of some is not the fact the article was a hoax, but that it was written as a parody. Since a parody has more shelf-life than a hoax, I imagine this is why it was perpetuated past what many would consider its 'due' date.

The fact some people referred to it in their own writings, etc.. I think, speaks to the quality of the original piece and inadvertently shone some light on people who are not giving GCA the proper credit for the knowledge contained herein.

Given Ran's passing references to copyright law, it would not surprise me if that was part of his intentions when he decided to run the piece. I'm not an attorney, but since there seems to be no assignment of copyright for contributing to GCA.com it would be hard for him take action based on the appropriation of someone else's writings. Not that he doesn't have a million other things to do.

I wonder if the people who the ruse was targeted at feel appropriately shamed?

For the good of the website and in the interest of golf course architecture?  I think the website and golf course architecture would have been just fine with or without that thread.

Given that there were about six who signed on the original screed I hope it was a conference call.
