Don't know if this one ever made it onto the ground in this spot.

Jim,

Where did you come across the Mission Inn routing?  In 1941 aerials there are only 9 holes to be seen, but you can kind of see the corridors of a few of the other holes in the routing you posted.

Not sure if this has been posted or not.

In 1939 the Detroit GC put together a history of the first 40 years of their existence, and in it was this map of the course. The caption says the '39 course was the same as planned in '15, and a look at a modern aerial reveals it hasn't changed in 100 years!

Of course, fitting 36 holes into a 200 acre piece of property (a triangle completely surrounded by homesites) doesn't leave much room for big changes.

I just ran across this myself and was going to post it until I noticed Mr. Kennedy had already done so. My question is: where is the 2nd hole?

Sven,

Very nice contributions. The detail in the NGLA drawing is really special, one of my favourites.

Would you by any chance hold the complete Golf Illustrated/Devereux Emmet article on Women's National?

I would love to read it if this is possible.

Thanks, Lyne

Devereux Emmet seems to have been the go-to guy when it came to building courses for women. The Westchester Women's G&TC was built in 1928, just a few years after the Glen Head course. By 1934 it became The Middle Patent Golf Club, and in 1947 the Westchester Golf and Tennis Holding Corporation sold the clubhouse (known as the ancient "Widow Brush" house) to Antoine Gilly, who used it for his famous La Cremaillere Restaurant.

Some of the course land was sold before WW2 and some of it was used to build new homes for returning servicemen after the war. Another part of it eventually became the Banksville GC, a par 3 layout. It closed in the late 1980s and the land was used for a housing development.

A beautiful drawing. Note the 3-D effect given by the shadows under trees.   Bunkers and greens seem to be rendered in the abstract. Wonderful, unusual stuff.

Do we know who did the drawing?

No idea, but the drawing is reminiscent of some other works on this thread.
