It's funny how things will hit you at odd times, but I just got Dick Daley's "frenchie" remark.  I couldn't figure out what he was referring to, since Creve Coeur, Bellerive (named after a Frenchman), and St. Louis hadn't yet been revealed.  But he must have been referring to my first words, "Soixant-neuf", which of course is the most famous French number, 69 (and the AOTD #).  I not only said it for that reason, but also WHY it's the most famous French number.  Give me (and I'm guessing JakaB, based on quite a few of his posts) toilet humor any day.  ;D

thats what I thought. no need to rant, sorry, i just thought you might fill us in what you found interesting about the design. you liked the big greens and tees, thats nice. i'll try not push you into unchartered territory in the future. did you play the course or were you carrying someone's sackk?

Honestly, I don't think that when I or any other person is a guest at a private club we have the right to discuss specific nuances that may exist at that club in a public format without permission of the complete membership.   Upon further consideration I should not have even mentioned I was allowed to play the facility.  Feel free to call me at 618-943-4716 and ask for John K and I will explain any questions you may have including how to spell my name.

It's been 19 years since my last French class in H.S. (If I'd known that Spanish would become the U.S.'s second language, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat!), so my memory of spelling is a little foggy.  I did an internet search, and just as many sites (not all were French porn sites, either) had it w/o the "e" as those that did.  Doesn't make it right, but could it be either?  Didn't we go through something like this yesterday?  And why is it MY spelling gets corrected (besides names)?  I see bad spelling all the time here and it's not always tyops.

Dan, I think the folks in Kohler, one state over from you, probably get the brunt of the toilet humor.   ;D


And "John C" and JakaB,

I get it.  The mystery is over.  Why was it such a big deal?

OK, I had to check, and I am indeed not insane.  GARY PLAYER of most definitely sub-saharan Africa won the 1965 US Open at this site.  That's how I got it, not from any of the French, not from Nick Price, but from remembering hearing a lot about an event that took place when I was two years old!

Just so I can be the first person to say something nice about Gary Player on this site...There is a plaque on the first tee at Bellerive stating how Gary Player donated his winning check for the 65 Open over to Junior Golf.  I think him winning the Open at that course shows its not all about length...The short par fours keep the course fun as much as anything...Number 11, 12 and 14 are a real treat setting you up for a stong finish.

If anybody knows on what other courses did Player win his championships...I'm kinda curious if they are atypical brute courses.

He won one Open at Lytham in '74 (?), not overly brutal, favors straight hitters.

I'm trying to think of the course where he won his 3 Masters titles.
