5 courses from one spot.

Standing to the left on the 4th green on the Olympic Club's Ocean Course, one can easily (on a clear, fog-free day) see a total of 5 golf courses- the Ocean & Lake Courses, Lake Merced GC, San Francisco GC and Harding Park. I am curious if anyone knows of any place anywhere else in the world that offers the same sight.

I have not done it, but I have heard that by hiking to the top of the rock formations behind the city of Palm Desert you can clearly make out and indentify 25 or 30 courses(and many more with a good set of binoculars)--In fact playing certain holes on either Big Horn or the Quarry in the Valley will permit you to see holes on 10 or 12 other courses--  I believe Pinnacle Peak in the Scottsdale Ariz area may offer a similar vista--

I am not sure that the quality of courses will come close to those in the SF area, but so far as number of courses visable from one spot those sites will far exceed the 5 mentioned--

David,

As Peter Alliss mentioned on one of the few enlightened pieces for the Open, from the hill on the 7th at Gullane #1 you can see at least five courses: Gullane 1, 2 and 3, Luffness New and Muirfield. I suspect you can see to Berwick and across the Firth to Elie from there too...

Standing behind the Clubhouse at Pinehurst there are five courses that go and return from that location.

Courses 1 through 5 including the famed #2.

Pretty cool, 5 courses and all not only within walking distance but within a few hundred yards of each other.

As Doug mentioned Gullane is the one place I've heard of where multiple courses are visible.

From the north end of the Old Course Hotel at St. Andrews you can see the 5.5 courses there (Old, New, Jubilee, Eden, Strathtyrum, Balgove)!

Another place in the Palm Springs area to see numerous courses is from near the top of 10,000+ foot Mt. San Jacinto, after taking the tram ride to near the top and hiking around to get the view of the Coachella Valley below.  Beautiful.

I suppose some of the soon-to-be 6 courses at Desert Mountain in Arizona do not all start at the same location?  Can they all been seen from any spots?

Gentlemen- Thanks for all the feedback. I meant to qualify my question by saying that you actually had to be standing on one of the courses to see all the others. Binoculars are not permitted! I think that narrows it down just a bit. I have not been to East Lothian, but it sounds like Gullane #1 might offer the most likely vantage point. Pinehurst is obviously a viable candidate, but can you really see all the other courses while you are playing one of them?

On the third tee at Spyglass Hill one can see at least four courses. Spy, CPC, Dunes and Shore at Mpcc. I never tried but with Binoculars I'll bet you might be able to see something of Spanish bay, too. And when the Forest gets built, who knows? Maybe 6

From the clubhouse at The National in Australia, you can see the two links courses, the old course is behind you, and you can see the land where two new courses are going to be built at St Andrews Beach.

Stand on the 2nd tee on the West course at Royal Melbourne and the 17th east is 20 yards away, the 12th green at Victoria is on the other side of the road 70 yards away and the 9th tee at Sandringham is 120 yards away just across another road.
You could hit a wedge from the 2nd w tee to greens on 4 different courses -1w,17e,12 Vic and 8 Sandy.
It would,however, take 2 woods and a 7 iron to get to Cheltenham GC.

Has anyone ever thought about creating a composite course from the holes at RM and Vic - like they did at Thirteenth Beach and Barwon Heads one day for charity?

Play 1W, 2W, 7W, 10W, 1E, 2E, 5W, 17E, 13Vic, 14Vic, 12Vic, 17Vic, 18Vic, 16Vic, 4Vic, 5Vic, 18E.  6621yd Par 72.  Some walking between certain holes, but nothing catastrophic.

It will never happen: but it would be fun to play.

Surely you would replace 12 Vic with the 15th .As well as being a better hole it would get rid of the walk from 12 to 17.

Yes it is funny that some of the more memorable spots on earth involve the view of golf in the distance. ST. Andrews, gulane, Monterey Pens are to name a few of the greats.

From certain points at Pinehurst you can see all five.  

From the first hole of any of them and a couple of other points.  
You won't see the whole course but you won't see all of Olympic from one point either.

I think Pinehurst qualifies
