I didn't know that the 8th green was in that spot in 1920.  But, I did know that the ninth green was as shown ... probably 100 feet to the left of where it is today.  The barranca which the tree grows out from is the location of the current left front greenside bunker.

Great pics, wish there was one of the 7th hole! In Fowler's plans for the course circa Spring 1920 he was going to abandon that hole and have 8 become 7 and so on. The current 10th would have been the 9th and he would had the new to make up for the 7th playing over a ravine to the green and then getting back to the 11th tee and back to the original routing.

You might try getting in touch with Neil Hotelling, I think I remember seeing some pre Egan photos of the 7th in the Pebble Beach history book he did.  I have his number somewhere, I'll see if I can find it and get back to you.

Is that a dirt road running along the shoreline of 9 toward 10?  If so, how did it affect 10?
