Some Battle at Bighorn

Tonight is another Battle at Bighorn which we all know is simply a way for TV to capitalize on Tiger's popularity and we might watch it because there is nothing much else to watch.  What match would you like to see and where would you like it to take place?  The match I would like to see is Tiger and Duval against Mickelson and Sergio; Nike against Titleist which might put a little bit of pressure on the boys.  I would also like to see it played at a course like Bandon Dunes where they might have to be a bit creative, especially if the wind comes up. They could also expand the format into 5 teams playing four nine hole matches, but that could be done at another time.

Tiger had a shot at shooting 30 on the front, but Jack's 7-iron to the ninth nearly went in, and Tiger didn't get to putt out.

That was interesting.

When was the last time Tiger hit 4th off the tee?

1. What is up with the condition of this not so interesting course?
2. Rules question. Sergio took a drop for a sprinkler head on his tee ball on 15 and cleaned the ball before dropping it. was that within the rules?

Loved this Trevino line about why he's never hired an instructor to help with his game:  "I'll hire one when I can find one who can beat me."  A line teacher Wayne DeFrancesco would love.

Yes, it was ok.  The only times you can't clean your ball, are when you are identifying it, checking to see if it is damaged, lifting it because it might interfere or assist another (and it lies off the green), or to see if you get relief from something like an embedded lie and then you don't.

I hate to admit it but I found the golf facinating.  WOW! those guys are good.  Tiger is 9-under through 16 holes and could have been 10-under but for Jack's gimmie on #9.  If only Trevino could still putt, the match might still be going.  I wanted to hate it, but the level of play was so high, I couldn't.  As a side note, how classy is Nicklaus?  Watching him take Sergio under his wing reminded me of why he (With Gordie Howe) was my hero growing up.

And I took full blame then, and retain such now.  My utter ignorance in not trumpeting a course I have never seen remains inexcusable.

Most of the course look typical. The new hole was at least a little more challenging with an actual hazard almost in the line of play.

My favorite thing Trevino said was about how he had always given back. Then he commented on the boys now aday not even saying hello. I wonder who he was talking about?  as most stereotypes go, I figure it's about 87.5% accurate.

It was so interesting I fell asleep! But before I did, I thought the four shots into the par-3 hole (I forget the number, 6 or 7?) were fantastic. Those were four unbelievable shots! I thought the hole was pretty cool as well. I particularly liked how they cut the bunkers into the steep ridge.

Even though it may have hurt some feelings, I thought that
Tiger and Sergio should have played from the tips all the way
around, instead of everyone hitting from the second up tees
on some holes.  No wonder there were so many birdies.  The
ladies hit from different tees last year.

Also, it seemed as if almost every tee shot was from way up
high to a fairway down below, making the course that much
shorter.  What's wrong with an uphill or even level tee shot?
