Jeff-  Agreed that the 9th at QR is a great short par 3 but is that due to the bunkering or the unique triangular shaped green?  There are a few ways to create a great hole.  One might be the green while others could be the bunkers or topography around the greensite.  I site the 6th (short) at National for a great green and perhaps the 5th (?) at County Sligo for topography around a bunkerless green.

Was the pin way up front at the point of the triangle this weekend when everyone had trouble?

Chris is right, there is a little clearing being done but a lot more required. I am viewing the current work as a major victory given the previous obsessions with planting. The balance has shitfed from planting more trees to actaully pulling some of the crap out. This was never going to be something that happened overnight.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed at this stage.

# 4 at Presidio in San Francisco.  Downhill Short Hole, maybe 130 yards.  Completely surrounded by sand, the walkways between bunkers (one each side) are so narrow you have to have good balance to avoid tumbling in!  All the bunkers are deep and difficult.  One of those par 3's you look back on and wonder how you got that double!

Look at #7 over on the Aronomink thread. Aren't there countless Ross par 3s like it, with the bunkers built into the pushed up green's hillside (eg Wannamoisett #3)? I love those holes.

Another Miller mistake is Badlands G.C. in Las Vegas.  The course almost unplayable in the wind and it is always windy in Vegas.  The requirements off the tee are especially severe when the wind is blowing.  You find yourself in positions off the tee that seem to contradict the first, second or third routes Miller would have you take.
