Two interesting quotes:
"The PGA Championship likely will play about 7,500 yards to par 70; it played 7,213 to par 70 in 2001yards from the middle of the back tees and 7,700 from the tips."
If you do the math, that's not especially long. It's like a 6800 - 6900 yard course in 1970.
"Anderson and Mangum stressed that the changes were needed and would have been made regardless of whether the PGA was returning in 2011. They said the Riverside course, which was redone with zoysia fairways in 2003, had grown to be a favorite with members, and it was drawing more play than Highlands."
"We did such a good job on Riverside that it caused us some good grief," Mangum said. "Riverside became the model we were competing against."
An example of not understanding your own evidence. People prefer the Riverside Course because it's more fun, strategic and beautiful. Looks like they are spending lots more money to make the Highlands Course even less attractive than its brother.
The way things are going, they will be playing the PGA championship on the Atlanta Athletic Club's overflow course.
