Would Someone Please Identify this Clubhouse/Club?
« on: January 27, 2006, 06:55:59 AM »
John Capers and Tom Paul asked me to post this photograph of a clubhouse for identification.  Please take a look and see if you can figure it out:

I have no idea what it is, but for some reason I thought of the clubhouse at Lancaster CC.

Wild guess: Could he be on the 10th tee at Plainfield?

That's it Donnie, unless another identical clubhouse was built somewhere else which I seriously doubt. Thanks for the identification. This photo was circulated through the USGA Museum/Library Committee and no one could figure it out. This clubhouse showed up on a film that was of Merion East that Merion's historian John Capers got his hands on recently. He asked the USGA Library/Museum Committee and no one seemed to know so I told him if this photo could by posted on GOLFCLUBATLAS, I'd practically guarantee that someone on here would figure it out.

You DA MAN! For this you get a free USGA Library card for one year and a sleeve of non-conforming golf balls. If you get lucky you may even get the chance to play a round with Iron Byron!

Tom,

Any other old photo's?  My father told me there used to be 169 bunkers when the course was private. It is a shame what happened to Shenny in the land swap a few years ago, but it is still a favorite of mine due to all the memories of playing there when I was younger.  I am going to take David W. there one of these days.

"Tom,
Any other old photos?"

Donnie:

No, not at the moment but if the USGA Museum/Library gets stuck IDing something I think they are suitably impressed enough to know where to come for help.  ;) There's an interesting architectural archive initiative brewing (a part of the new "Arnold Palmer History Center" under construction behind Golf House) and I see no reason why GOLFCLUBATLAS.com could not and should not play some significant roll in it. After-all if someone wants some esoteric architectural research done what better and quicker place is there to get it done then right here on GOLFCLUBATLAS?
