Cart Path Hall of Shame

or buggy paths as we like to call them.  

I mean how many do you need!?  It looks like spaghetti junction down there!

This is the 2nd at Camberley Heath, a lesser known Colt heathland course.

Let's see some more pics for the Cart Path Hall of Shame.


See the similarity to some of the Harborne bunkers, cut into an upslope?

That path runs so close to the green, it's kind of surprising they didn't build a drive-through so you could just drop your ball in the cup without ever getting off your ass.

However, I believe that every cart path everywhere belongs in the cart path Hall of Shame

The hole itself looks quite good otherwise.  I didn't know there were cartpaths in the U.K. other than at Nicklaus' Gleneagles.  If everyone walks, why are they there?  Maintenance paths?

New(ish) foreign owners who don't want to walk, or want to entertain their clients in a buggy.  The course is quite undulating but not hilly.  

They also added a stupid pond on the 16th that forces most to lay up at 200yds.  We gained a beautiful, plastic stork on a rock though ???

I hate to broadcast it, but Highlands Links has some very poorly routed cart paths.

The 9th there is a modified Alps hole of sorts, with the green set in a dell and obscured by a ridge. I don't have any photos to post, but imagine a cart path slicing across the hillside fronting the 17th green at Prestwick or the 3rd at the National Golf Links of America and you get mental image of the approach to Highlands Links' 9th green!  

It's a travesty.

Prior to 1997, Highlands Links was strictly walking only. When they introduced carts to the course, they installed a continuous cart path. The paths scar the course horribly, but the reality is, annual rounds have tripled since riding became fashionable in Ingonish.

Course maintenance was so poorly funded during the early 1990s, Highlands Links was on the verge of extinction. So the golf carts have helped... the paths just need to be re-routed.

Jeff, maybe a small chapter in your book, please hire a GCA when installing cart paths on a course that was built without. Many times, only some better planning and viewing from many different angles would prevent good-great golf holes from finding their way onto the "cart path Hall of Shame"

Many added cart paths that I have seen would become MUCH less visable with a little "tweaking" This is certainly the case a my favorite Kansas course.

One of the many sick things about me
is I seem to be able to recall old GCA
threads that are similar if not identical
to current ones. I'm sure this will change
once I assume "Senior" er "Champions"
status next year. Here's another example,

One of my favourite finishing holes. The cart path is about 8 feet from the green, and the green is all of 3,000 square feet. There are a lot of bouncing balls, further complicated by OB behind the green.
