Paul -- That's a beautiful bunker. Unusual? I'd say more natural, throwback to the past, etc. Still, quite beautiful.

Wait a second!

Doesn't that bunker at the Kingsley Club have vegetation growing in it?  Wasn't that deemed to be completely "unfair" in some circles here on GCA??

Can we get one of the world-famous architects in there to clean that thing up and do a proper "restoration"??  Speaking of which, where is the Rococo shaping...it doesn't even begin to resemble an amoeba or any other type of natural single-celled organism??

Have to add a few nods to those who mentioned the following:

The fairway bunker on #8 at Wild Horse. Great stuff indeed. It reminds me of the Bermuda Triangle -- you go in and you may not get out! :o

Have to also mention the cross bunker at the par-5 4th at BB as well as the front bunker at the long par-4 15th. Two great holes that finally came to public attention during the '02 Open and the bunkers onb oth are simply awesome stuff.

Have to also mention that tweeny weeny fairway bunker on the 2nd at Rustic Canyon. Tommy N mentioned it to me when I played the RC for the first time back in November and I was dam fortunate I didn't get sucked into it! ;)

It's the White Horse of Uffington in Oxon: my favourite of the chalk figures in Britain.

About 2000 years old and it looks to have some interesting angles for golf; a fun hole from the tail to the eye!?

The funny American author Bill Bryson, captures the remarkable quality of chalk figures such as these:  the fact that the locals have taken the time and effort to maintain it for twenty centuries, when only a decade of neglect and the figure disappears.
