WGC Bracket Contest
« on: February 26, 2003, 06:01:57 PM »
Who has the best brackets going for the WGC?

I was 18-14 for the first round - good calls on Rose, Scott, Leaney, and Sluman; bad calls on Howell, Immelman, and Casey, and Katayama.

My pick is Faxon...

I went 19-13 in the first round. Leaney, Sutherland, Rose, Scott and Sluman were my upsets to advance.

I have a final 4 of Woods, Price, Els (Oops) and Weir-so still 75% alive there.

Hard to pick against Tiger in this format even though his recent track record has not been Tigeresque.

At some point, the PGA Tour is going to recognize that the purpose of tournaments is ENTERTAINMENT, and restrict this tournament to 32 or 48 guys, which would enusre that more  big name players play each other late in the tournament. It just isn't that interesting to the world to watch Phil Tataurangi or Stephen Leaney.

22-10.

If Choi wins today, watch for my name at the top of the GolfWeek standings!

Choi over Weir in the final. Hey, anyone can pick Tiger and Els -- right?

I always pick a darkhorse in these deals.

Of course, I haven't won one -- yet.  8)

Bummer about KJ Choi today...  ;)

That was a very impressive showing in round one, however - for both you and KJ!

You win some, you lose some.

No, you don't! You lose 'em all!

At least I do.

My 11-year-old daughter's pick is still alive: Alex Cejka.

Well, I'm top 100 for now, but not for long because I can get a max of 2 of the final 8 (Woods & Mickelson).  For every Adam Scott, Toshi Izawa, and Darren Clarke that you get right (isn't it funny how we convince ourselves that we're "smart" to pick such upsets correctly, kind of like picking the 5/12 upset in the NCAA Tournament, even though it's really a wild guess?), you get killed by picking Monty in the final 4 and Ernie in the final.  Oh well, at least I don't have to hope for the outcomes I want any more--by the way, that 7&6 thrashing of Davis by Darren Clarke has already provided me all the entertainment I could want out of the week!

Chris Kane,

Sorry about Faxon there. I was surprised...anyway my brackets are no better than random chance now.

Bad call of the week? I had Woods playing Leaney - and I had Leaney winning.

Matt,

I won't eat for a week because of you: never forget that!  You had Leaney beating Woods?  I shouldn't have listened to you at all...
