Tom, don't know how long you've been on GCA but I love your guys work. For the life of me I can't understand why it doesn't get more views and subs on YouTube, as the production values are top-notch and the narration excellent! I'll be sure to check the latest vids out and both like and comment accordingly.
Cheers and keep up the great work. When are you coming to the States? ;D

I've been lurking for a good year or two now. Like a good read and contribute sparingly. No current thoughts of getting over to America, as you say the views are not quite yet at the level to justify the cost in getting over there! Glad you like the content, this Netherlands series has taken four months to put together so nothing new in the pipeline for a number of months, but we're always on the lookout for opportunities.

No current thoughts of getting over to America, as you say the views are not quite yet at the level to justify the cost in getting over there! Glad you like the content, this Netherlands series has taken four months to put together so nothing new in the pipeline for a number of months, but we're always on the lookout for opportunities.

Tom, the reason I discovered Cookie Jar Golf initially was because a discussion group member from the U.K. posted a link to your vid on Cleeve Hill when it was reported the course was in jeopardy of closing if they weren't sold and or the current owners couldn't meet their financial obligations. I believe this was pre-pandemic or right around spring of 2020 when we all thought the world and golf as we know it, were going to end. That video was so well done it brought tears to my eyes, which made me curious to check out your other content. I believe I commented on one of them back then that I couldn't believe you guys didn't have more subs and views, as I know the vid's you produce don't come cheap. They're very mticulously thought out and put together.
I'll do my part to start spreading the word and help boost your channel, as the golfing world needs more content creators such as yourself. Too much of what's out there is personality/brand driven where I love that CJG's is more storytelling focused. Going to go watch the vid's produced from your Netherland's series now.

Thanks, I really enjoyed the films (and the podcasts) about your trip to the Netherlands. You did very well in picking these five courses, and I think you captured the "golf culture" here in the Netherlands quite well in your films. Although the idea of a Kennemer/Noordwijk 36 hole day in October was... interesting ;D

I, too, am a massive Cookie Jar fan. The Netherland podcasts and videos are outstanding. The "Story of a Golf Club" series on YouTube is also excellent. My only complaint is that I want more content.

I too am a big fan of your videos, really well done.
I did a golf trip to Netherlands many years ago, played Kennermer, Royal Hague, De Pan and Swinkelsche before heading over to Belgium for a wedding and played Royal des Fagnes. Excellent golf!!

Thank you all for your kind words. I walked into Netherlands pretty blind to the architecture, and the place blew my mind. If some of those courses were more easily accessible or more covered by the golf media I'm sure they would feature much higher on the rankings.

It's cut out of a forest, so being treed is inevitable and natural. It must be close to fifteen years since I was there; I don't recall thinking it was catastrophically over-treed (unlike, for example, Royal des Fagnes, which I saw around the same time) but I imagine a bit of felling wouldn't go amiss.

The cookie Jar videos, especially these Netherland ones have been tremendous content. The YouTube golf scene is a crowded one lately but these videos are definitely top of their class. As a side note, I really loved the podcast you did with the guys from The Tie recently. The topic of golf trips that are attainable and still showing the best of GCA was really interesting.

I didn't feel like it was over treed at all.
The Netherlands has to be one of the most underrated countries for golf. David Davis set up an amazing BUDA in 2013 that included all of these courses. Crazy to think it's been ten years.

I know over recent years it has gone through extensive tree removal. Playing it in October, it never felt like trees were in play unless you were substantially offline.

It was an interesting discussion with those guys because the task we sent them was for something interesting that is actually attainable. What came out of it most for me was how receptive some of these private clubs in America are if you go about it in the right way and write to them. I think stating an interest in the clubs history and architecture really goes a long way.

Being a Welshman I'm extremely keen to visit as I've only really played Royal Porthcawl down there. I am very interested in the historic links between Blackwell and Harlech and Aberdovey. What links to these clubs share? A friend of mine is a member of Harlech so planning on a trip soon!

As a starter look at the chapter on The Rise of the Midlands in Darwin's Golf Between Two Wars. Following on from that there have been strong historic links between the Wigorns and the Narwhals, and if you look at the various honours boards at RStD (especially) you will see many of the great names of Midland golf (both men and women) including Tweddell, Lunt (father and son), Marks etc etc

Tom, were you to make the jaunt stateside, what courses would you want to play and what story could you see Cookie Jar Golf telling?
I was particularly enthralled by CJG's Netherlands series, as I had absolutely no knowledge these coures existed nor the connections of most to U.K. golf given the work Harry Colt had done there. They are amazing courses whose rich histories you eloquently brought to light. Hopefully, their stories are compelling enough that others will explore them intimately and give them their due.
That said, there's an even stronger U.K golf connection to the U.S. given all the legendary golden age architects that heralded from Britain who setup shop here and flourished. How would you even begin to tell that story given how golf literally blew up in the span of a few short decades across large swaths of the country? Despite this, there are stories yearning be told and perhaps requiring multiple trips to do them justice. However, there is no one currently in the golf vlogging space with the talent and capability you and Cookie Jar Golf have to unearth them. You're equally romantics as you are historians of the game, which makes you uniquely qualified for the task.
if money is the primary obstacle I'd highly suggest starting a Go Fund Me campaign to scrape up the dollars needed to make the trip across the pond and back feasible. There are those here on GCA that can help with access and accommodations, if needed. I'm not one of them, unless you're planning to come to Michigan to incorporate courses here as part of a broader story. LOL! I'll be happy to contribute financially, as I'm sure will others, but the story of the origins of golf in America is yearning to be told and it fits perfectly in CJG's wheelhouse. I hope to see it documented by you one day.
