One of my seniors at school is focusing his capstone project on golf course architecture and computer modeling. He will design holes for Play Station's PGA Tour video game, and he wants to touch on various eras of design philosophy.
One of the informative sites is the link below. It is a nice, point of departure for someone embarking on a study of golf course architecture

This site has a helpful timeline, but no featured piece on the history of gca.
Which other sites have nice, entry-level readings on gca and its history? Paste your link in a reply.

Hi Ronald
Please find a link below to a podcast that your student may find interesting, it's entitled Golf Architecture 101 from a podcast called the Firm & Fast Golf Podcast. It was recorded with our very own Ally McIntosh and would be a useful primer for them.
