I'll be in LA on Oct 10-12.

Happy to host you at Top Golf in El Segundo if you buy the chicken wings.

The holes there are oversized so an ace is definitely in the cards.

I’m only a nine minute Uber ride away. That would be hilarious. Earlier this month I played Glenview on my blue skies and great bounces tour through Chicago. Those who I asked spoke highly of you. Congrats.

If you don't get on a country club or two try Angeles National a Nicklaus course in a canyon in the Valley and the site of my sole hole-in-one. Very challenging and fun to play. 8)

Any luck, John? Rough time of year with lots of aeration taking place throughout SoCal right now. (At least among publics.)

Toss in a Soule Park round or three.
Nice town to boot.
$25 after 1:00
$34 before
That seems unbelievable to me and mostly open on the sheet.
aerification?

I hope Kav plays everywhere he wants in SoCal. There used to be way more access threads back in the day and some of the approaches were noteworthy. There is a story about a U.S. course rater who feigned a British accent in an effort to find his way onto one of the iconic courses thinking it would give him a leg up. :)

Could be aeration.  Make sure to play early at Soule or it’s a long round.  Hoping someone gives Mr. Kavanaugh a chance to wear slacks rather than shorts while in town.

I'm in town for all of October at a minimum. With my phantom base being LAX Soule Park is a bit far but I misplaced my no. Set it up and I'll show. I'd love to find out if Westchester is the best Chester. I can ride my bike there.

Speaking of bikes. The bicycle scene along the beach has to be one of the finest in the world. If anyone wants to meet for a ride let me know. I haven't buddy upped on a bike in over 20 years.

It says Soule Park is 90-100min drive from Santa Monica. Is it worth the hike out there?

It takes a big set of balls in my mind to ask someone for access to their club. I'll have my pro call the clubs pro but that's as far as I would ever go.

Barney,

I just fired up Google Maps...

Looks like its only about 10 minutes longer to drive to Torrey Pines from LAX, than it is to drive to Soule Park...

I know you're a huge TPS fan...

P.S.  If you wanna catch some good pigskin this weekend, Utah is playing UCLA in the Rose Bowl on Saturday, both are ranked in the top 20 ATM..

Well given he's there for a month, it would seem it might be nice to escape LAX.
Ojai and Soul Park are quite nice and on the way to a lot of nice places.

The most interesting thing, to me, about this thread is that its author would have been the very first to absolutely eviscerate anyone attempting to do the same thing—gratuitously seeking access.

Just finished Pelican Hill South after seeing the Dodgers last night. The Dodgers game may be the longest walk in golf. My habit of not watching a game I am attending is not unfamiliar to my fellow “residents”.

As I dive deep into beach culture I am learning one indisputable truth. A beach is never just a beach. Pelican Hill once again seems to have been molded for those who use it. A perfect blend of luxury and exhilaration. Makes you want to put on your pretty pants and dance. Loved it.

Had a BLAST with John on Wednesday at Victoria. The guy can golf his ball! We played as a foursome (with one walker) in 2 hours 40 minutes, and I think he was a bit ... ahem ... surprised by the pace of play. Don't think he brought his best game. Still managed to shoot his handicap. Would hate to play him in a money match giving him full pops, I'll tell you that for sure!

Woah!  That is epic. An hole in one on a par 4 is so rare and to have another guy get a hole in one for the same group.  Send that in to Golf mag or Golf Digest as that is worthy of a write up.

If there is such thing as a hidden gem, or at least a shadowed gem, Behr's Victoria is one!  Get past that first hole and it's psycho fun.  That 15th green was once audaciously defended by a wall of fronting trees.  Never seen anything like it.  It's been 20 years since I was there - is this still true?

If there is such thing as a hidden gem, or at least a shadowed gem, Behr's Victoria is one!  Get past that first hole and it's psycho fun.  That 15th green was once audaciously defended by a wall of fronting trees.  Never seen anything like it.  It's been 20 years since I was there - is this still true?

The 15th exists in all its glory. Playing in the group of oddly talented golfers I was the only one to go safe left and ended up with the shortest missable birdie putt. Besides the trees the fronting landform is audacious with a gobbledy hazard tight left.

Speaking of the first. The dude made triple and was even par after the second. 7 - 1 is a rare start.

Yes, and it's probably the worst feature on the golf course. Makes the hole extremely easy for today's long hitters and stupid for short hitters -- especially when you combine it with a fairway bunker that is a mere 240 yards from the tee with an elevated tee shot. Even modest length drivers carry it with ease, and it removes the angle for the shorter hitter to play to the alternate fairway to the left. The hole needs an enema.

A cool under the radar club I'd be proud to hang my hat at.
