Delray Dunes hires Scot Sherman for Dye restoration
“It has lost much of its Dye characteristics, so we are studying its past and trying to reintroduce Pete’s fingerprints on the ground as best we can,” said Sherman. “Similar to the older restoration projects, we are using photographs, aerial images, club documentation, and member testimony to accomplish the task.”

Kip Shultese(sp) just renovated it 3 years ago, seriously. Tried his best to mimic the Dye look.

I guess the fact that Pete Dye did not believe in restoration, will not stop guys from offering to restore his courses.
I've already heard from a couple of clubs wondering if I'd consult - including the very place where Pete told me that restoration was ridiculous.
-
Tom,
Could you touch on that some more? I'm curious as to why Pete was against restoration. Was his belief against all restoration or specifically related to his designs?

I would be curious in hearing about that as well, as I think some of his own designs are eminently restorable, especially the one in profile this week.

The " new" restoration and construction will start March 4 and reopen in the fall:
“We call this a sympathetic restoration since we’re not sure how else to refer to the work we are doing,” said Sherman, who has previously worked with Dye. “Some of what Pete built originally can be recreated, but some things just cannot due to changes made to the layout over 50 years. So, along with much input from members, study of the old course photos, and recounting some conversations with Mr Dye, we formulated a plan. The course will be a combination of these original features, some restored green contours and inspiration from Pete’s other designs built in the late 1960s and early 70s. Make no mistake, Pete is the architect of this course!”

The 4 posts above refer to a restoration done earlier in 1990.

I don’t see it listed on his website under completed or current projects.

@Nate Oxman
I called the Pro Shop yesterday and the " new" restoration and construction will start March 4 and reopen in the fall.

How many times within the last 10-15 years have they closed this course down during the high season for re-working?
-
Yep, I heard the work is starting in March. I'm talking about Kipp Schulties doing work there. Delaire CC in Delray Beach is on Schulties' site under Current Projects, but not Delray Dunes.

Nate,
Kip's website is in need of some updating. (He's been busy) His "currently projects" are from over 5 years ago.

Why should it? If Scot thinks that's the best solution, where's the harm in this particular choice.

Thanks. I didn't realize that the first string of comments in the thread were from 2020. I was there last year. Cool place right next door to CC of Florida and just down the street from Pine Tree GC. Home to Bob Murphy and Jay Sigel. Director of Golf Eric Shillinger came from Moselem Springs GC up here in PA.
