Title: Crandon Key Biscayne
Post by: Ira Fishman on March 05, 2020, 05:57:14 PM
I am headed to Key Biscayne for a business meeting. Is Crandon worth giving up a day at the pool with drink in hand after a long set of business days?

Hey Mike I'm guessing this is the same course I played years and years ago when had the Dixie Amateur in Key Biscayne every year. Can you say 1980's lol!

Why the name Crandon?

Go to the Biltmore for the deluxe renovated Ross or Miami Springs(if it still exists) for the non renovated discount Ross

Not worth a DAY.
But, if you get an 8:00 tee time, Id play it before the rounds stretch to 5+ hours like mine was.

Then at the pool with a drink in your hand by 1 or 2:00.

Jeff,

You'll be pleased to know that Miami Springs seems the same all these years later.  Decent conditions, good greens, sound design, focus on challenging approach shots to perched greens, decent tree management, 50 bucks as a walk-on, crime scene just off 18th green as a guy in a in a high speed chase with police took out a utility pole, left his wrecked pickup, ran across the 18th fairway followed by police cars who thankfully followed cart rules and stayed off greens and out of bunkers and apprehended the perp.  Soon electric company and firetrucks were on the scene and the area around the utility pole was cordoned off.

We were pleased to see the 18th hole was still open when we arrived there a few hours later and not closed off as a crime scene.

Mike, not sure how many days you have down there and if you're still looking for suggestions, but I'd take a look at Miami Shores.  Would play it over Crandon... https://www.miamishoresgolf.com (https://www.miamishoresgolf.com/)

Mark,

Thanks...had planned to check it out tomorrow.  Maybe with 9 hole Langford/Moreau Granada if time permits before flying back late tomorrow nite.

God I miss Miami...(said no one ever)
Cart path only for cop cars-they do tell me Miami has improved.

jeffwarne,

Way more enjoyable than $450 larceny at trump Doral I'm certain.

I really liked Crandon when I played it last February (that said, I also adored Shores and Springs). It is totally That 70s Golf Course. Runway tees, cape-and-bay bunkers, also some beautiful lush SoFla scenery. Also, I found it a really peaceful spot.

Miami Shores is a blast.  Small, firm, elevated greens and a terrific routing.   Shame it looks like they decided to blow up one of their closing holes to build a range at some point in their history and the 8th to 9th hole transition suffers but beyond that is really good.

Thanks for the responses. Never made it for golf or the pool. Drinking done at hotel bars. See NFLPA Annual Meeting.
