For me...London Calling by The Clash.

-
Maybe two:
Don't think twice it's alright.
And Jesus Loves Me.
-
Hilarious, and right down my alley.
If I have to choose one tonight, Proud Mary.

Tommy,
Great song: Pressing on the up awayAlways guide me Lord I prayUndeserving, and stubbornly never fail to love me still.
Got to say I do pray when I'm pressing. Seems like it's the Devils work. I do stubbornly press, on the way down that is.
-
John "the other K",
I see you as more of an Ike and Tina Proud Mary. The intro is you!!

POUND IT OUT --- Booker T.
-
Cob,
Booker T. Jones? That is seriously obscure. Great choice.

I know a guy who saw Ike & Tina Turner in a small venue in Davis, California where I went to school. This is back in the late 70s. He said the Ikettes (from a few feet away) were spectacular in person.
Old John Fogerty is one of my heroes. For golf, we've got to have that gentle mid-tempo groove.
-
Tweezer Reprise
-
Depending on the breeze: Not Fade Away (Buddy Holly) / Fade Away (Oasis)
Feeling confident: Bound for Glory (Tedeschi Trucks Band) / Fly Like An Eagle (Steve Miller)
Not feeling confident: Help (The Beatles)

Old John Fogerty is one of my heroes.
My newly acquired Sirius radio subscription made me research CCR. Wow, they were wild back then :)

The Feeling Begins (Passion, by Peter Gabriel).

A toss up between:
Slow Hand (Pointer Sisters)
Better Than Anything (Al Jarreau)

With a RIP to the wonderful Harry Dean Stanton, who once sat 2 feet away and sang Georgia on My Mind to me, at 2:00 am in the Viper Room on a Los Angeles summer night, and then left behind a big fresh glass of vodka and grapefruit juice for me to drink:
Georgia on My Mind.
I only wish I knew of gca back then; someone might've got me onto Riviera the next morning. That would've been sweet!
-
Whipping Post- The bros. It so describes my golf game. Plus u can't find a cooler building up to a crescendo as WP.
-
Anything by Steve Winwood...but if pressed to pick a specific song, it would be Valerie.
-
Playing on the Jakab guilt theme, when I was younger it probably should have been "Cat's In The Cradle" by Harry Chapin.
Now that the kids have grown and flown, I'll go with "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel to get me feelin' groovy as I step to the tee.
-
Growing up, Tina Turner was the nanny for my best friend's next door neighbor. I'm guessing I'm the only person in the Treehouse who has driven through Nutbush a few hundred times.
What is a walk up song?
Bogey
-
Anything by Steve Winwood...but if pressed to pick a specific song, it would be Valerie.
I was sure you'd go Huey Lewis & the News, likely something from Sports.

It's impossible to pick just one song. So I'd need to go with Valerie and then Hip to be Square and then Power of Love.

A Beautiful Morning by the Young Rascals
Because it's always a beautiful morning whenever you step onto a golf course. Doesn't matter what time it is.
-
This is about the 10 seconds of mood created by the Intro moreso than the subject matter:

QED.
-
A huge number of choices. Gamblers go with "Let's See Action" by the Who. I am going with the old punk rock band X. "Left & Right".
-
"Pressure Under Fire" by Gov't Mule....;-)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqa195cSBfg
If you guys don't know the band, do yourself a favor and investigate.
Warren Haynes played in the Allman Brothers for the past 20 years and his own band has at least 15 albums.
Will be seeing them October 14th in Chicago and they are on tour now. Just returned from Europe tour.
-
Forever Young, as sung by The Band and Bob Dylan on The Last Waltz.
-
Anything by Steve Winwood...but if pressed to pick a specific song, it would be Valerie.
Arc of a Driver??
-
Depends on who I'm playing with, but if I ever tee it up with JakaB I hope they play this on the first tee -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zj39pjfssA
-
Now if I am teeing it with Jaka, I'm going with the Gambler (Phish & Rogers version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DriP0QQjhYU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DriP0QQjhYU)
Then exiting the 18th green, I'm going with Glory Days (The Boss & Phish)

It's impossible to pick just one song. So I'd need to go with Valerie and then Hip to be Square and then Power of Love.
I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square." The song's so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about... the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
About three weeks ago, Huey Lewis & The News played the driving range at Pumpkin Ridge. It was loud, but quite fun.
On occasion, my Dad used to hum "The Wabash Cannonball" to himself while playing golf. He found the tempo appropriate for the game. I guess he had his own private walk up song.
The "Arc Of A Driver" comment was golden.
-
...Bob Dylan's "Wigwam", turned up to 11.
-
The legendary teacher Ernest Jones claimed that the Blue Danube Waltz is the perfect tempo for the golf swing. Used to drive my wife crazy when I hummed it while swinging. Not walk up material though.
Ira
-
An important distinction, Ira.
I employ on old-style swing (at least in theory), one on the Ernst Jones-Tommy Armour-Sam Snead line. For the actual swing, yes, the waltz tempo is ideal -- and just to keep me slow away from the ball, so is the aforementioned Georgia on My Mind. BUT, as walk-up material, you're right that neither will do. For that, I think I'd pick The Who - Teenage Wasteland/Baba O'Riley
-
No question, for me, it has to be "Backstreets (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oID_fZDtcs0)" (Bruce Springsteen); my all-time favorite song.

Sometimes this is done during 1 day cricket matches. All sorts of selections result including -

Wake up song, not walk up song. Showing my age, but if this don't get'ya out of bed, nothing will.

Sven that is a great song and a terrific rendition too. Mine would be David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. The opening riff is perfect for a walkup to the first tee... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXq5VvYAI1Q

Second half of Layla by Derek and the Dominos.

Ok, The Impossible Dream. Any version works.
-
I changed my mind...I want the intro to "The Weight" by The Band.
To each his own.
-
Moonage Daydream--Bowie
Two strums of a power chord and "I'm an alligator. I'm a momma poppa coming for you!"

"Pressure Under Fire" by Gov't Mule....;-)

Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule? Thanks for squaring that away for us Ian. Who knew? ;)

Just did this last week in our annual Goat by Boat Open (staff event)
Tom Petty
"It's good to be king"
-
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
Preferably the 2007 version from the O2 with the introduction by Plant.
-
Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix

+1
-
Seek & Destroy - Metallica or Reigning Blood - Slayer
If it's too loud, you're too old.
-
I am trying to beak your heart -- Wilco
-
Fescue Elitist,
I'm impressed, great selection especially for a jaka thread.
-
I suggested to my wife that my walk up song should be "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred. She rolled her eyes. Dammit.
"Home By The Sea" by Genesis, or anything by James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, or The Gin Blossoms.
-
Nice Guys Finish Last - Green Day
Gotta admit, still trying to figure out the opening post.
Seek & Destroy - Metallica or Reigning Blood - Slayer
If it's too loud, you're too old.
:)
-
I'll play. Memo from Turner - RS with a little help from Ry Cooder.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lP0zsWupANs
-
how about Tubthumping by chumbawumba?
-
And now for something completely different, depending on mood and tempo, Little Darlin (Count Basie version) Wave (Stan Getz version) My Babe (little Walter which is the only version)
-
My best hope is that for next years Waste Management Open in Tucson golf is introduced to the walk up song. Once Shelly is in we're all in.
And, just to keep a bad thread going...What would be you favorite Pros walk up song?
Tiger...Sympathy for the Devil. Rolling Stones. Please allow me to introduce myself...

Or Gimme Shelter ....

Has anyone here ever actually had walk-up music?
But the answer is Walk by Pantera.
-
Gimme Shelter. I was 9 years old in 1969 when that song was released as the first track on Let it Bleed. Wow...that is one hell of a walk up.

In that vein. In 1977 Queen released We Are The Champions. I was 17 at the time. It was a common "Walk off" anthem for me. What a douche we could be.

I always thought the great bass line in Live With Me should have been the opening for Let It Bleed. For some odd reason it reminds me of Blue Train's minor opening.
Ciao

Sean,
Don't forget that back in the day we all needed a reason to get off our ass and turn the album over. If we were so lucky to be partying with an acquaintance who may have owned a reel to reel...you would leave after the buy, no matter what the song. I so miss the art of producing a great album.
-
Off topic. But probably the most scared I have ever been in my life would have been in 1979 when I walked into some guys apartment and he had a pair of Bose 901's, a reel to reel, all powered by a Marantz amp tubes a glowing. I was out of my comfort zone.
-
Right band, wrong song for Tiger. Got to be "Shattered." Shadoobie.
-
Today I'd choose "English Roundabout" by XTC.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgniUG-1YlE
appropriate given the second end of a playing career
-
My fragile game is so dependent on tempo, that anything fast or upbeat wouldn't help. I have actually sat in my car, before a big tourney, because the wrong song tempo was on my car radio as I drove up, while I waited for the right kind of song to come on, so I could leave the car and have that tempo in my head all day. Really fragile! :) I'm partial to the Grateful Dead, so something like "Sugaree" has the right slow swing tempo!
-
Everybody except John Daly and Tiger Woods gets "A Well Respected Man" by the Kinks. Tour policy.
-
Althea by the Grateful Dead- I’ve actually hummed this to myself to focus on a relaxed tempo, also gets bonus points for being Al Franken’s favorite Dead song.
-
53:30 mark of this show:

-
Glory Days (The Boss) and Down on the Corner (CCR) for my range walkup takes me back to a time when I could turn with out stiffness. Actually helps.
-
Tom Watson (the famous golfer) once suggested this one:

Great selection. Which version, original, Russo, Co's? I'd have to go w Russo, he took it to another level. There would be no Co without Althea, due it being Mayors favorite one too.
-
If I need to slow down - Patience by GNR (the whistling part).
If I'm jazzed up - Welcome to the Jungle.
-
The chorus from "The Gambler".
Which, btw, was written by a high school classmate and close friend, Don Schlitz, who goes into the Country Music HoF next month. He's had an incredible career, and now in his semi-retirement has become something of a golf addict.
Sorry for the name drop (not really!) but "time enough for counting when the dealings done" is the ONLY way to play sports to the best of your ability.

Mr. Schlitz is co-writer of six songs in my iTunes library. I just checked.
With respect to "Althea", Mr. Franken singled out the "Go To Nassau" performance from 1980 is his favorite n the recent Netflix documentary. And since he is so passionate about it, that's probably the right one.

Chopin's "Revolutionary" etude, op. 10, no, 12. Don't laugh -- the first few bars are epic.

Hit Em Up. Obviously.

John,
Go to Don's website and look at his complete list of songs if you haven't already. Incredible career, and you might even have more than you realize if you are country music listener.

I would go with "Cocky" by Kid Rock but only the instrumental at the beginning. I would not want the lyrics, only the concept.
