Good Evening Ladies and Gents,
Want to thank Tony Muldoon for introducing me to the site, and Ran for the warm welcome. I've been getting more and more fed up of the rubbish posted on some of the other golfing forums (particularly one in the UK) so am looking forward to some more enlightened discussion on GCA.
I'm originally from Southport, England and learnt my golf on the tough links of West Lancashire - which taught me the importance of thing fairways! I've been living in Aberdeen, Scotland, for the last 17 years and have been a member at Portlethen (won't ever get a mention on here I doubt), which I left to join Newmachar, and now I am lucky enough to also be a member at Royal Aberdeen. Oh and I have a corporate membership at Meldrum House.
I love playing different courses and in my 40 years (26 of them playing golf) I've managed to play at over 150, which I guess on here will not impress anyone! :P
I know a lot of you are avid golf travellers, so if anyone is heading through Aberdeen then please drop me a line, and I'd be delighted to meet you and perhaps be able to host (would certainly save you some money on the green fee!)

Any friend of the reprobate Muldoon is a friend of mine! We need as many Brits as possible here to keep these uppity colonials in their place. If you're ever anywhere near Fife, let me know and we'll get some golf organised.

I did make it to RA when you were absent in 2013 and I have to say it blew me away. Most commentators seem to be give it (grudiging)respect and add if only the back 9 were as all world as the front. For me the back 9 offered a different challenge but the drop in quality thing has been overdone. I hope you can persuade more to visit one of the best links in the UK. Top 10?
I note you've said on another thread that greens have been redone, but does that mean they were measured and reinstated to their previous contours?
In the new Confidential Guide Tom writes that he sorely underrated RA in the first edition and then adds “It is interesting to note that most Americans prefer the quirkier Cruden Bay up the coast while most folks in the UK lean heavily towards Balgownie...”
Can't find Sean’s tour but Kyle did a bunch of great reviews from his summer spent over here. . It will have to do until you do yours ;)

Finally I've bone to pick about that 3 wood you provided me with. What a harlot! All sweetness and whispering soft draws on the range and a totally lazy trollop on the course! :D

I do think RA is highly underrated. When I reviewed Trump Scotland I said not only was it not the best course in the world, it wasn't even the best course in Aberdeen. Some people interpreted this as a big diss to Trump, but I don't see it that way. Best in Aberdeen is one hell of an accolade.

Welcome Colin,
As Martin said, always good to have another member from this side of the Atlantic. Apart from the Greatest Course In The World my experience of playing in and around Aberdeen is far too limited. I hope to change this soon. Let me know when you are in Edinburgh with your clubs and we can get something organised.

Thanks for all the welcomes and kind words guys - still finding my way about the site, but will be great to catch up with some of you for a game or two.
A few more details about me. I'm a Civil Engineer by profession (went to Uni in Dundee), worked in Singapore for a couple of years but have been in the Oil & Gas Industry in Aberdeen for the past 18 years, and have somehow risen the be VP Operations at a small specialist subsea contractor. I'm married with 2 kids (one from a former relationship) aged 2 & 7, the eldest I'm trying to get him into golf. Handicap has been stuck around 5 for the last 7 years (there is a common denominator I know!) and I also do a bit of club building on the side - although the more I tinker, the worse I play...
