A couple of thoughts...

Only 1% thought that the game's "difficulty" was a deterrent to more play. This is completely counter to what we hear in the States.

Only 1% find the cost of equipment a deterrent to more play. Again, this goes against common theory here

Instead of surveying adults who are already playing the game I would like to see a survey of children asking them why they DON'T play golf. You might really learn something from that which could lead to realistic plans for attracting new players.

Mike,

most kids do not have access to courses and equipment at a time when they want to try plus here in the UK many parents don't like their kids outside unsupervised.

This is a "global" survey on golf which has more data points from Germany than from the USA.  Ignore it.

That's a very American view Rich, by all accounts German golf is very similar to American golf.

Have always been very happy for my kids to be outside unsupervised on a golf course!

No, Marco, it's very much a statistician's view.  5X more Canadians and 7X more Australians than Americans in the survey even though each of them are ~10% of the American golfing population.  It's just a typical waste of the R&A's budget and time....

All the best

Rich
