Title: Has anyone played the Centenary Course?
Post by: Jay Flemma on August 26, 2014, 01:50:24 PM
What's it like?  I mean besides being more Tour venue than links...

The fifth best course in Auchterarder.

It is okay but should have been a lot better given the land available. The Kings would have been a much better venue for matchplay IMO.

Forgettable is how I would describe it!

Surely not !

I would have thought you would just have to think of any other Nicklaus design to remember the holes  ;)

Being 20 miles inland, we can probably cut it some slack for being more a lot of things than links.

Who among us wouldn't do three days of Kings/Queens and never miss Centenary?  I am not looking forward to all the [clueless]
TV shills lauding the course.

Its been awhile ,but my most vivid memory was that they had riding carts on the Nicklaus course. Decent course but Kings is much better.

Carts in Scotland?  That's like hot sauce in breakfast cereal.  >:(

Writing it up now for GW; was there last week. It looks ready for a Ryder Cup.

It is not what you take a trip to Scotland for. Not what you would take a trip to the heathland for either.

Not worth the time.  Better off playing another round on the Kings or Queens.  I was playing with an accomplished Landscape Architect who said, why did we come here?  He called it "Mayacama light"

Thanks for the tip on Mayacama too:) Why in particular is it so...underwhelming...

Whoa, let's just draw the brakes here with the Mayacama comparison, which is grossly unfair to a solid golf course in a beautiful wine country setting. The Centenary should be compared with a place like the 2010 at Celtic Manor, and even then I don't think it would fare too well.

I do hope you cut to the chase.

Paul, you'll have to read the story. I worry here about spoiler alerts, which is what happens when the Web trumps the printed word. But trust me, I get there.

Methinks that Dr. Klein is damning with faint praise.  I do not think that "ready for the Ryder Cup" is a criterion that anybody on this board uses when comparing golf courses.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I've played the course and it is very forgettable.
