Winter Park Country Club is one of my faves in FL. The 7th green is really good.
-
Matty G is great, and I know he is working with only 10 courses in the country, but.... IMO Oak Hollow in High Point NC, has to be a part of every hidden gem list. It is an early Pete Dye, it is really good, and they have a very reasonable all day rate.

Rees The Deltona Club is also a hidden gem, great fun and reasonably priced.

Oh for sure, I live in Orlando and play there and Victoria Hills regularly. However if I only want to drive a mile to play, then WPCC is the course I will play and really enjoy.
-
I will put Pine Crest CC (Lumberton, N.C. - http://tinyurl.com/nl6utd8) on my Hidden Gems list, even if it is 1.1 miles from I-95.

I really need to make a better effort to see Pilgrim's Run this year.

Jud,
It's just off US-131 on your way to Kingsley. It's an easy on and off and the golf course is worth a stop for sure.

any course that has Montauk Downs as #2 hidden gem, eliminates all credibility.
average course, certainly not hidden, a zoo, and not cheap.
Seriously?
In the area, let's try Tallgrass or state park Indian Island.
Montauk hidden?...inconvenient maybe
want a state park hidden gem?
try Bethpage Red, Green, or yellow over Montauk
any day-or Timber Point

Timber Point Blue 9 is a true hidden gem in the NY area.

Bethpage Blue is a pretty strong candidate, too.
-
Aiken Golf Club needs to be on this list.
-
Aspen Lakes has red lava bunkers. That's it. Really nothing much else to recommend it unless you like soggy messes for cartballing in the high desert.
Juniper in Redmond, OR is the hidden gem.

If I were Matt Ginella, these would be a few of the unfortunate influences I would have to consider for an article of national ambition:
-Regional Balance
-Advertisers
-Input of colleagues
If I were assigned Hidden Gems as a topic, my hope would be to elicit the following reactions from viewers/readers:
You pathological liar! Flatulent Warthog Golf and Hunt Club is not nearly the hidden gem that Belching Emu is!!
Brah, I totally agree with your selections. Ebulient Carrot Golf and Vegan Club flies soooo far under the radar it's reeedonkulous.
What's a hidden gem?
Almost, dude, almost. I concur when it comes to Costive Canal, Windbreakers Cove and The Trots. I've played them all and recommend each to all I encounter. I cannot align with your selection of Carbuncle's Abscess Old, Furuncle The Wizened nor Nevus National. Each is a pretentious blemish across the storied tradition of golf course architecture. Money would be better spent on skin care.
Amigo, I suggest you stop by The Stain the next time you pass through Spain, South Dakota. It is the only American design by Castro Pendejos, the redoubtable Bolivian architect and is a testament to his strength and vision.
Are you high?
That old saw, bad press is better than no press (and sometimes, better than good press) comes round again.

I will drive right past it in the first full week of May. Hard to get on mid week??
-
If you get out of your car, it's not hard to get on at all!!
Call ahead to let them know GCA sent you. You might stick around for 36.
