Title: Masters Tournament Daily Tickets Random Drawing
Post by: Tim Martin on July 19, 2011, 05:36:47 PM
I got an email today telling me that I came up empty on the random drawing for daily tix although I am still alive for the practice rounds which won`t be drawn until August. Anybody hit pay dirt?

Who did the email come from? I wonder if this is standard protocol to let people know they did not get them?

EDIT: go to masters.com, click on tickets and the login...you will find your rejection notice waiting.
Title: Re: Masters Tournament Daily Tickets Random Drawing
Post by: Link Walsh on July 20, 2011, 12:00:27 AM
It's a standard email from Augusta National.  I think the subject said something about Masters badges. You click on the link, then log in.  That's when they tell you if you won any tickets or not.

The e-mail comes from the folks at the Masters web site.  In the e-mail they provide you with a link to a page on that web site that requires a log in using the same log in created to submit your request.

Once you have logged in a page appears letting you know if you have succeeded or not.

I got my "regrets" as well.

I would suspect the regrets far outweigh the congratulations for the actual rounds, which were not part of the lottery until this year. My guess would be that a higher portion of the applicants should expect to see a better result for the practice rounds. I got the "regrets" for the actual rounds as well.

Here's to hoping on the practice round tix!

So much consternation by a group of guys who give Golfweek a pass even though they rank Augusta National as only the 10th best course built before 1960.  You guys get what you deserve and can like it.

Oops, that's 10th best in the United States built before 1960.

It seems to be a similar story with the London Olympics. We didn't bother to apply for tickets - you can see far better on TV, and the coverage of the terrorist activity will be first rate - but it seems that most of the relatives of likely British competitors won't be able to see their offspring perform, even if they're in some obscure sport. But Libya was going to get its full allotment of tickets until someone noticed that our three biplanes and an aircraft carrier (without aircraft) are currently throwing hand grenades at Col Gadaffi....

Better luck to the rest of GCA, let us know if you or someone you know was successful!

I'm sure that members of the Master's Committee's monitor this website and they would deem the language found in this topic unacceptable.

In the tradition of the Masters, no potential patron has been "denied" or "reee - - jected" for practice round tickets, it is as simple as "Your application was not selected for 2012 Masters Practice Round tickets."

Doesn't that make you feel better?

I was rejected 3 times over for Practice round tickets.  I keep applying for 1 on Monday with no luck!  I blame the fact that they went to online applications.  When you had to actually mail something in the pool of applicants was probably a lot smaller.

Bill, I've applied many times, and since 2002 have deliberately asked for only 1 Monday ticket, and two Tuesday tickets, and checked the box that states I'd happily take any tickets, even if my request could not be filled completely. I've come up empty in a 12 year quest. If my odds of gaining a ticket are improved, they've still not become as attractive as I'd like!

I am 1 for 12.   Hit the second year and nothing since.

I took 3 friends and gave them the practice round tickets.  Two years later one of them hit it, and SOLD the tickets for a profit !!

Guess he needed the $ at that time.

Good luck all.

Certainly doesn't hurt to just lob in an application...

0-for-forever on these, but I'll keep trying. Maybe this year I'll just go anyway, not getting any younger.

I've stopped trying to get practice round tickets. If ANGC doesn't want me, I don't want them either!

First try and 2 tickets for Tuesday practice round.  Wonder if it's easier if you just request 2 instead of 4?

9-10 hr drive but looking forward to it.  Coming from Florida by way of Savannah.  Hotel reservations not easy.  Found a Holiday Inn in Statesboro about 1.5 hr away.  Please no Statesboro Blues comments...

As I've been 0-for-forever on these drawings, my son and I are going to go Thursday since we'll be out east already. Would we be better off securing tickets now, or waiting until we get to Augusta and dealing with the local resellers? (I realize that no matter what, this will be $$$.)

I won my very first time in 2002 for 4 tickets to Tuesday I believe.  I couldn't go in the end so I'm 1-1!  Have to get there in the future.

The problem with tournament days is most of the tickets are for all 4 days so if you buy it for a day you have to give it back to someone when you leave and if they don't know you they aren't likely to trust you with the tickets. I think the only individual tickets for a tournament day are the ones that people won in the lottery and there aren't many of them.

BTW: They allow PGA members in with identification but they cannot bring anyone else in with them without a ticket.

I thought they got 1 guest?  A PGA member asked me to go about 10 years ago saying he got 1 guest.

Just to be pedantic, I doubt PGA members get complimentary access. USPGA members might.

Jon-
All Class A PGA members(I 'd be shocked if it wasn't International as well) get access-and their own dedicated gate
as well as Superintendants-(GCSAA)

Maybe he meant practice rounds access.  Did they get a guest for practice rounds?

He had never been (and still hasn't) and I would assume he probably got some bad information as he is a great guy.

the Director of Golf at my club said many years ago they allowed PGA members to bring guests in with them - might have been 30 years ago.

The guy I work with took his wife under his PGA card several times. That was a long time ago, though. I plan to go with my PGA card next year. Hopefully.

Do they still send emails if you come up empty?  I registered years ago and I don't ever remember receiving an email.  I checked today and I still do have an account with my correct email.

After ten years of disappointment I finally got lucky.
4 tickets for Tuesday.

A question for those in the know....
Should I be making hotel reservations now?

Thanks

Nope. If the Cubs can win the World Series I can win this lottery. I just don't have 88 more years to go.

I plan to go next year as a PGA member… I just have to figure out how to get my daughter in as well. Kids get in free, but only with TICKET holders. Using your PGA membership to get in doesn't make you a TICKET holder.  :P

Erik,
It's even more complicated than that.
The ticket "holder" has to be the person who the ticket was mailed/sold to by ANGC.
I.e. a scalped or borrowed ticket won't do it....but
perhaps someone who was attending anyway (who is the "badge holder") might extend the generosity of getting your daughter in the gates with them as you obviously don't need a badge.
Maybe a GCAer lucky enough to win the lottery.

I know they/re cracking down on tournament badges for Thurs-Sun rounds....

But can you still buy practice round tickets fairly easy on the secondary market, even if not cheaply?

Tournament and practice round badges are readily available via ticket brokers

I was 0-11 (or something like that) prior to this, so if it hasn't happened for you yet, don't lose hope!

Amortized over 10 to 15 years of trying the lottery and coming up zero it doesn’t seem too bad. Especially as most folks will only go once.  Heck most of us spend that on drivers over 5 years. Just a matter of priorities.  ;D

Tigermania drove up the prices this year.  I bought a practice round ticket 3 years ago for $300.  I would wait and see what happens, especially with the practice round.  Tournament rounds are far more difficult because they are mostly badges for the 4 days which makes handing it off to the next person critical and requires a great deal of trust.

I believe the small print none of us read says the blind draw isn’t really blind and rather they pick people who never got a ticket, to expand their brand. Very smart. Can’t be mad.
