Sr PGA at Aronimink
US Open at Olympia Fields
Sr. Open at Inverness
Sr. Players
British Open at RSG
Sr. British at Turnberry
Wow. Hope he and Nicklaus both play Turnberry.

It would be interesting to compare the set-up at Turnberry with 1977s and to see if the senior set are actually longer than they were a quarter century ago, given the technology. Thankfully, the rota should remain relevant for some time as the elements will have their way.

That is one hell of a cool lineup of courses. Where do I sign up to become a Senior Pro? ;D ;D
Interestingly, I'm going to see the setup of Turnberry first-hand... my buddies and I are the last groups off before the R&A shuts down the course for the Sr. Open. We play the Ailsa on Sat. July 19. We've been told we have to get a move on because they want us off the course at a certain time... Should be very interesting to see.

Nigel: I shall if I get access to a computer. I'm not sure if I will on this trip, though. So you all may be rid of me entirely from July 17-27. After that I shall surely report.... ;D

I read that he and Jack are either going to be paired together or play some type of exibition. My guess is he wins at least one.

My friend is readying for the Inverness event. He wanted to pull a few pictures up online to see what the course looks like. We struck out.
Anyone know a way to get a few photos of the place?
I showed him a terraserver aerial, but he's looking for a ground photo.

With Inverness's fairly narrow fairways and difficult rough,
I don't see Watson flourishing at the Sr Open, unless the USGA or the club decides to make the rough benign,
but, I could be wrong.

Jonathan - thanks! Naive traveller me, I hadn't even thought of that. I will have some free time the morning of Sun July 20, so maybe I'll find my way over there and post some thoughts. Odds are I'll be too hungover, but I shall give it the old college try... ;)

At this stage of their careers, I'll take Tom over Jack any day, any course ...

Does anybody know anything about the expected yardages for seniors at aronimink or inverness? Are they longer than previous regular tour events at the same courses?

I don't know whether you have played Turnberry before but for me it is fantastic and a better course than the farmland of Muirfield. I haven't played Muirfield but I have walked it so maybe I shouldn't have an opinion.
Turnberry only has 64 bunkers but nearly all of them are well placed. It is a great course, I hope you enjoy it.

I was recently told, while visiting Inverness, that the golf course will be set, nowhere near the back tees.
It looked to me, based on the comments I heard, and the markings I observed, that the course would play at about 6,800 yards, par 71. However, the weather conditions could alter the setup.
Inverness's greens are relatively small, with pitch and contour, the fairways aren't generous and the rough is challenging.
But, with the best players in the world, age 50 and over, playing today's high tech equipment, they could set it up to play longer.
Hopefully, they'll enjoy good weather, and we'll enjoy viewing a good tournament. I only hope that they televise some of the holes on the front nine, like 4, 7, 8 and 9.
The left side of the bleachers on # 18 seemed precariously close to the left rear of 18 green, and this may cause relief/ruling/competitive problems.

I have played Turnberry Ailsa, but it was 16 years ago (gasp - damn I feel old), so seeing it now will be just as well as seeing it for the first time. More than anything I remember a very definite sense of melancholy overcoming me as I played the course... you see, I have always been a strong Nicklaus fan...
In any case I am really looking forward to seeing it again. Goodale loves it as well, as I recall... and your praise also just gets the juices flowing here. It's been planned for nearly a year.. the time is getting closer... We're also playing the Kintyre, mainly as a warmup and because I do want to see how the re-do came out there...
We also get to do something called the "Colin Montgomerie Links Golf" clinic the morning before we play Prestwick. Given Monty's lack of success on links courses, I'm not sure how much to take this instruction! It also hurts to say (as a Nicklaus fan) but make it the Tom Watson school and I'd be very excited... ;)
