Benches on golf courses
« on: October 15, 2019, 03:50:38 PM »
I am looking for an old thread where posters displayed their favorite golf course benches from around the world.  My feeble attempts in Seach have not come up with what I remember.  There were many pictures and each poster usually showed at least one.
Time flies so this could have easily been 10 years ago, maybe more.

Anyone remember this or where I might relocate it?  I am definitely searching for numerous old bench pictures that exude old world charm and simplicity.  Thanks.
It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

I can say they are needed more than they are provided IMO.  Usually they only have 1 somewhere around a ballwash/garbage can, but the tee you are playing maybe 50 or more yards away.  Really appreciate a nice bench when walking a course as a foursome to relax for a bit and enjoy the moment and scenery.

The maintenance guys hate them.  And most courses rent them.  They come with wheels and motors.

I'm guessing benches wouldn't be helping with pace of play and quick rounds...

I remember the thread--somebody posted a photo of a bench on the path between 15 green and 16 tee at CPC I think. Maybe adding CPC to the search might help.

There are a bunch on page 1 and 3 of that thread, and here is one more via Mr Moore - Enniscrone #17 tee:

Maintenance guys are the traffic cops of golf. Benches and rest stops with a view. Try finding 30 minutes of peace before a set of judging eyes fall upon you. It just makes everyones life simpler if the benches are left in the barn and the rest stops are closed.

Bench price is too high if you look on line or at catalogs and realize how many are needed.  We built a number of plain, simple benches in house over one winter

Better to watch the incoming 1:68” missiles from those overshooting the 5th green whilst waiting for the group in front to play the 6th?
There’ll be a few cool-view benches for Buda-ities to sit awhile and take in the vista come Sept at Welshpool and Kington.

Not as many as you would think. I have taken pictures of particularly interesting benches (either construction or location). But my photos are so poorly organized.  Will try to post some tonight or tomorrow.
