Over the years in my researching Philly's first municipal golf course, I picked up many articles along the way.  Some I'd forgotten what storage device I had them on, like these mid- to late-20's articles by golf writer Ted Hoyt of the Evening Public Ledger.  There is plenty of good info in these articles, in particular for the history buffs on the site.   ;D

Here they are:

Great work Joe, I think we all appreciate the time and effort you put into this.

I have been bombarding our board and golf committee with your work and they have finally agreed to ressurect the Invitational our club ran before WWII. So your work does have some effect upon the clubs in the Philly area. Nice to show them the greatsof the Golden Age once walked our fairways.

Cool stuff.

Interesting the claim by 1925 that anyone who can break 90 at Cobb's Creek "can justly lay claim to being a real golfer."

Wow - outstanding find - would be very interested if anyone has done similar work in the NYC/NJ area - I guess it depends whether there was a 'Ted Hoyt' in that region?

I found a bunch more articles on a drive from 1926 and 1927 and have updated the album:

Many of these articles are very juicy.   ;D

Following  a few of the link trails Joe has provided from Ted Hoyt columns led me back to the excellent discussion amongst the Philly contingent about Melorose CC and the extent of work done be each, MacKenzie and Maxwell.  I wonder if Hoyt was a bit of a dipsomaniac in that he wrote correctly ~1927 of Dr. Alister MacKenzie being brought into the project by PB Maxwell, but misidentified them as " Robert MacKenzie" and "RC Maxwell" in a follow up story only a year later as Melrose grew in and opened for play.

I think it would take another lifetime to wade through the volumes of links Joe has provided over the years.  But, one can certainly get a grasp of the authentic millieu of the lifestyle of golf that was so rich and engrained in the Philly culture of the era by perusing Joe's exhaustive resource citations and links.  Thanks Joe for your wealth of research and sharing.  Just amazing dedication to digging up the historical record!
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Joe.. outstanding. I had a great time reading some of this history. Also, found a couple of references to the old Penn RR Golf Club.
Which I think will mean a lot to the current group ay CVCG. Thanks again for posting these.
Hope you keep researching.
