Hell, I'm from Philadelphia, and I consider Pittsburgh part of the Midwest.

Wayne,

I was born and grew up in New York. Went to high school right outside Philadelphia. Lived and worked in Pittsburg twice. Lived and worked in Ohio several times.

Pittsburg is Pittsburg, neither the East Coast nor the Md West.

Oh, and I now live in Texas and it ain't the South!

Well it looks like the 2022 US Open might go to The Country Club in Brookline, and then in 2024 going back to Pinehurst.

http://www.thepilot.com/news/u-s-open-returning-to-pinehurst-in/article_57623434-2a77-11e5-99d3-47407f29d18d.html

The 2024 date for Pinehurst seems about right after 10 years. I wonder if Merion would work for 2022.

It would also mean the 2025 could be Whistling Straits or Chambers Bay or Trinity Forest or (name of course here).

And then 2026 could be Oakmont as it would be ten years after the 2016 US Open.

Given the last non-coastal US Open will be Erin Hills in 2017, I'd have to imagine 2025 is somewhere in the midwest (yes I know Oakmont is not coastal in 2026). Olympia Fields, Oakland Hills, or my choice- Southern Hills.

I know Oakland Hills really wants another Open. They may be making some changes coming up after next year's Amateur which could enhance their chances (and I'm not talking about another Rees Jones-fying of the place).

I think Oakland Hills or Southern Hills would both be great choices with some touch ups.

Agreed Wade, Trump is radioactive.  What Golf Organization wants the international news media outside their gates re-playing the Trump speeches and interviewing protesters?  Would set the game back a long way.

Agree on OHCC. They have done some nice things recently like taking out trees and adding some heather/native grasses but Rees over-did his thing prior to the '08 PGA. They need to scale that back some and I think they will.

If they go back to Merion they really should be targeting 2025, 75 years after Hogan's greatest triumph.  Not sure how that aligns with other commitments and balancing geographic and public/private diversity.

TCC...was at the club today and caddy suggested 2022 was in play.  Of course, caddies know all, except the right 2nd shot yardage on #10.

You are probably right in that the USGA needs to go somewhere besides east or west coast for 2025.

2018 is Shinnecock, 2019 is Pebble Beach, 2020 is Winged Foot, 2021 is Torrey Pines, ugh, 2022 is ???, 2023 is LACC.

I think Southern Hills would work for 2022 or 2025. I also think Merion would work also.

Sorry Rob but I think Oak Hill is permanently out of the mix for a future U.S. Open. I think the best they can hope for is a future PGA Championship and even that is no guarantee.

LACC and TCC are proverbial locks, some minor details need to be buttoned up but I believe it is a done deal for both clubs.
I think Mike Davis is taking a wait and see on Erin Hills. If the '17 Open is a success then Oakland Hills is likely out but if it's not then I believe OHCC will get the nod.
They will likely go back to Merion in 2030 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Jones winning the Grand Slam. And I believe Davis mentioned a real possibility of going back to Congressional in 2026 in celebration of the 250th birthday of our great country.
As far as going to Medinah? Very doubtful. When the Open was played at Olympia Fields in 2003 the USGA had major issues with Cook County and I honestly believe it will be a very long time before the USGA goes back to Chicago for a U.S. Open.

No one mentions Baltusrol   Don't know if the 2016 PGA is an audition, bit it is a historic USGA club and deserving of another Open.

JP, Medinah is in DuPage County.

I think the only thing that would deter the USGA from going there is the club's close affiliation with the PGA of America.

So the U.S. Open is set through 2024 (with Torrey Pines in 2021, TCC in 2022, LACC in 2023, and Pinehurst in 2024).

I'll be curious where they go in 2025. It will have been 8 years since a non-East or West coast Open (Erin Hills in 2017). I'll guess that the USGA goes to a place like Southern Hills, Oakland Hills, Olympia Fields, etc) in 2025. Just a guess.

Will the greens be re-seeded by then? Assuming the fescue doesn't work long-term, I wonder what type(s) of grass might be a viable option?   8)

It will be interesting to see if the USGA deems Chambers Bay to be a "success" behind closed doors and award it another open. For all the potential the course seems to have those greens were really, really bad.

Of course Davis will call it a success -- he's virtually said that already, save for poor "communication" issues (not the actual conditions themselves) about the greens. When Mike Davis says something, it must be true 8)  (except when it's not, as we saw in the debacle that was Congressional). It'll be back at CBay, fescue or no fescue.

I think they will go back to Chambers Bay in 2025 or Merion in 2025.

Jordan Spieth winning the US Open put the stamp of approval on it. What would have happened if Brendan Grace won?

10 years later, the greens will be fine.
