If you do that, I'd be interested in driving down from Boston for the day.

Does Sankaty leave their bunkers unmanicured (is that a word?)? See photo of No. 12.

Just remember, no outside play until after Columbus Day, the website and Pro Shop fail to mention this!

For those who have played both, do you prefer Sakaty Head or Eastward Ho!?

Bunkers are maintained. The photos are from an early morning round in November. I believe the club operates a smaller maintenance staff during the off-season and it's possible they didn't get around to 12 to rake the bunkers.

Having spent four seasons as an assistant at Sankaty Head, I do prefer Sankaty.  Though, I enjoy the terrain and variety of holes at Eastward Ho!.  With calm winds Sankaty's par 4's are for the most part driver wedge and I enjoy hitting multiple clubs from the tee.  I think the par 3's, par 5's, and long/tough par 4's (Sankaty #10 and Eastward Ho! #18) are equal.

Two of my favorites.

Are there any prominent courses that do not maintain their bunkers (as a matter of policy) to increase the severity of the hazard?
