Gents:

I laugh when architects in any public forum -- especially one with captive "raters" -- expound on the "underrated" courses in their portfolio.

Does anyone really believe that such architects aren't spinning the audience and hoping that even just a few will make the trek for a possible spike in their overall placement?

Architects talking about their courses is like parents talking about their kids.

The question was what "one" course do you think is underated and only Pete Dye answered with one course.  Fazio was next and he said he had 300 courses that should be in the top 100 and then answered with the 3.  Rees followed and gave a brief explination of Huntsville and then added Nantucket.    I don't begrudge them for pointing something out on a course that may be overloked and now I would probably make a trip to go to Johns Island or Huntsville or Nantucket.

Whats interesting about Caves Valley is that Rees Jones had the job but wouldn't give up certain land which the developer wanted late in the game to build housing.  Fazio came in and said the developer could have the land and Rees was fired.  So far the developer has never used the land.

I visited Huntsville recently.  I've searched the archives but haven't been able to turn up many photos to complement some strong commentary earlier in the thread.

Go here if you wish to see the course in my traditional photo album style supplemented with Google Earth generated hole diagrams:

Huntsville is a solid golf course , plays  fairly long with some uphill holes that require good ball striking . Hard to fake  it here, you have to hit it solid on lots of holes.

I'm not a big fan of severe downhills and uphill , so it won't jump out at me as one of my favorites.  Keith Evans , Rees J's right hand man, says it's one of his favorites also .
